Jets sign 2nd-round rookie WR Stephen Hill to 4-year deal

Every team would like a young, fast, tall wideout with the ability to stretch the field and jump with the best of them. The New York Jets had an especially dire need for such a player and were able to pick one up during the second round of last weekend's draft in Georgia Tech product Stephen Hill. On Thursday, the Jets signed Hill to a four-year contract worth a little less than $5 million, according to sources. He will be given $2.8 million in guaranteed money, according to those sources. Head coach Rex Ryan has said that he expects Hill to start during the 2012 season.

Fantasy Analysis:

Hill is the second rookie WR to sign a deal; the Bears' Alshon Jeffery was the first. Hill will probably have more fantasy value than Jeffery this season since the Jets view their guy as ready to produce right away. But given the fact that his quarterback is Mark Sanchez, and he's in a run-first, run-second, where's-Tebow offense, Hill is probably not a wise draft pick for fantasy leaguers. I think those in keeper leagues should really like Hill since he, at 6-foot-4 with 4.36-40 speed, certainly has the tools to be a strong fantasy producer in a year or so. He just needs the Jets' quarterback, whomever it will be, to get the ball in his area consistently.
