Patriots snag TE Jake Ballard off waivers from Giants
This is how you know there isn't much fantasy news going on: Two notes on an injured, mediocre tight end in less than 24 hours. It's June, people.
The New York Giants waived Jake Ballard
on Monday, but they were hoping to re-acquire him once he cleared waivers. However, the New England Patriots would have none of it. The Patriots claimed him on Tuesday. Ballard, who failed a physical which led to his ouster, is still very unlikely to play this season. He will be an exclusive-rights free agent after the year, meaning that the Pats can retain him by simply making a qualifying offer of $630,000 for the 2013 campaign.
Fantasy Analysis:
The Giants defeated the Patriots in the most recent Super Bowl, and Ballard scored the game-winning touchdown in the Giants' victory at New England during the regular season, so consider this the Pats' way of trying to stick it to the G-Men. Whatever. Ballard is off fantasy radars for 2012.
