Patriots add TE Visanthe Shiancoe

The Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots each gave Visanthe Shiancoe a contract offer. And a choice. The 32-year-old tight end chose the defending AFC Champions on Tuesday. He signed a one-year deal with the Patriots for $1.2 million. Shiancoe had spent the past five seasons with the Vikings. After scoring 11 touchdowns in the 2009 season, Shiancoe scored a total of five through the next two seasons.

Fantasy Analysis:

This move really has more to do with Rob Gronkowski @RobGronkowski and Aaron Hernandez @AaronHernandez than Shiancoe. He hasn't had any fantasy value for a couple of years, and that will continue as he plays behind two studs at the position. But Shiancoe might be able to free up those two -- especially Gronkowski -- from a lot of their blocking duties, allowing them to run more pass routes. More routes, more chances for receptions, and in case you're just joining us, that's kind of a big deal in fantasy.
