Fantasy NASCAR Preview: KansasThis is the sixth race this season on a 1.5 mile speedway (and the sixth in the Car of Tomorrow). The Series hasn't raced on a track like this since Chicago in July, so make sure you use that race as a barometer. Guys who ran well earlier in the year but struggled in Chicago are on the upswing; guys who ran poorly earlier but turned it around in that race may be better choices. Races from this season mean far more than the event at Kansas last year due to the new car. Jimmie Johnson, #48 Lowe's Chevrolet, Hendrick Motor Sports
Johnson was 2nd in Chicago after he was passed by Kyle Busch late in the race. He led 35 laps in Charlotte before blowing an engine, and was 2nd in Texas. He is also riding a streak of 4 straight top 5 finishes. Kyle Busch, #18 M & M's Toyota, Gibbs Racing
Busch dominated in wins at Atlanta and Chicago. This track suits him, and he is looking to get back on track after his second straight miserable finish. He was also 3rd at Charlotte and Texas. If anyone can climb out of the hole he is in, it's him. Greg Biffle, #16 3M Ford, Roush-Fenway Racing
Biffle is the hottest driver on the Series right now with two straight wins to start the Chase. Those finishes don't mean anything in Kansas this week, but these do: 3rd in Las Vegas, 4th in Atlanta, 2nd in Charlotte, and 4th in Chicago. Bad luck derailed him at Texas, but don't forget he won this race in Kansas last year. Carl Edwards, #99 Office Depot Ford, Roush-Fenway Racing
Edwards won in Las Vegas and Texas this season. He had mechanical issues in Atlanta and also suffered from issues in Chicago, though he led a lot of laps in both races. He was 9th in Charlotte, and is an excellent class A choice this weekend. Kevin Harvick, #29 Shell/Reeses/GM Chevrolet, Richard Childress Racing
Harvick was 3rd in Chicago, 4th in Las Vegas, 7th in Atlanta, 8th in Fontana, 9th in Texas, and 14th in Charlotte. He is very quietly riding a streak of 8 straight top 10 finishes (and 9 top 10's in his last 10 starts). If he keeps this up, he could end up in the hunt for the title. Tony Stewart, #20 Home Depot Toyota, Gibbs Racing
Stewart was 5th in Chicago, 2nd in Atlanta, and 7th at Texas. Smoke led 23 laps in Charlotte, but ended up 18th. Throughout his career, he has always been a solid bet on the 1.5 mile ovals, and this string of events could propel him into the top 5 in the hunt for the championship. Matt Kenseth, #17 DeWalt Tools Ford, Roush-Fenway Racing
Kenseth was 8th at Atlanta, in contention for the win in Las Vegas before his late get together with Jeff Gordon, scored a top 10 at Texas, and was 7th in Charlotte and Chicago. He has been an afterthought this season, but historically he's too strong to ignore during this stretch of the season. Brian Vickers, #83 Red Bull Toyota, Red Bull Racing
Vickers finished 6th in Chicago, and is easily the best class C choice this weekend. He led a lot of laps in Charlotte (where a wheel fell off his car ending his day early), and also gathered a top 10 in Atlanta. Enjoy using him in the class C group now, because next year he will be back in class B for sure. Dale Earnhardt Jr, #88 AMP/National Guard Chevrolet, Hendrick Motorsports
Earnhardt led 62 laps and finished 3rd in Atlanta, 2nd in Las Vegas, 12th in Texas, and 5th in Charlotte after leading 75 laps before blowing a tire. He did not have that same strength in the last 1.5 mile oval race in Chicago, and also struggled badly at Dover. For the first time all season, he isn't on the front line of class B selections. David Ragan, #6 AAA Ford, Roush-Fenway Racing
I just surprised myself by ranking Ragan this high. He was a solid 8th in Chicago though and deserves it. He was also was 7th in Vegas, 13th in Texas, and 12th in Charlotte. He probably won't reel off a win anytime soon, but his consistency is improving.
