Fantasy NASCAR Preview: KansasJeff Gordon, #24 DuPont Chevrolet, Hendrick Motor Sports
Gordon was 5th in Atlanta, 4th in Charlotte, and 11th in Chicago. He has had some poor luck this season on the 1.5 mile ovals as well, but should be solid this weekend. He has a couple wins at Kansas, and really needs to get started now if he has a shot at the championship. Ryan Newman, #12 ALLTEL Dodge, Penske Racing South
Newman was 4th at Texas and 14th at both Atlanta and Las Vegas. He was 10th in Chicago, but isn't part of the top tier in the class B group this weekend. Martin Truex, Jr., #1 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet, Dale Earnhardt Inc
Truex got his first top 10 on a 1.5 mile track this season at Chicago with a 9th place effort. He's a risky class B bet, but if he is solid at Kansas, look to use him in Texas or Atlanta. Kasey Kahne, #9 Budweiser Dodge, Gillett-Evernham Motorsports
Kahne was 15th at Chicago, staying true to his unpredictable finishes on the 1.5 mile tracks. He won at Charlotte, finished 6th in Vegas, but had finishes of 25th and 28th at Texas and Atlanta. Use him at your own risk, I don't want any added gray hairs. Jeff Burton, #31 AT&T Mobility Chevrolet, Richard Childress Racing
Burton was 5th in Vegas, 10th in Atlanta, 6th in Texas, and 6th again in Charlotte. Somehow, he didn't finish in the top 10 at Chicago (sarcasm), as he ended up 19th. There are much stronger class A options this weekend. Mark Martin, #8 Army Chevrolet, Dale Earnhardt Inc.
This is a team that scored top 10's in Las Vegas and Texas, and Martin is coming off a race at Dover where he once again had a car competitive enough to win. He is always extremely competitive on the 1.5 mile ovals, and you should consider Martin again this weekend. Denny Hamlin, #11 FedEx Toyota, Gibbs Racing
The only Chase driver who can really sympathize with Kyle Busch at this point is Hamlin, who has also had a rough couple of weeks to start the playoffs. He has been a mixed bag on the 1.5 mile racetracks this season. He had a nice top 5 run at Texas, a 9th in Las Vegas, and a 15th in Atlanta. He has been inconsistent at times though, and finished badly in Chicago. Don't use him this week. Clint Bowyer, #07 Jack Daniel's Chevrolet, Richard Childress Racing
Bowyer was 2nd in this race last year, and was in position to win with Greg Biffle running out of fuel. Still, most people realize that those races in the old car have less bearing on how teams run going forward. Bowyer has been difficult to predict this season on the 1.5 mile tracks. He was 6th in Atlanta after leading 52 laps, turning it around after his 28th place finish in Vegas. He was 10th in Texas, but just 25th in Charlotte and 22nd in Chicago. You do the math and make your own decision. Elliott Sadler, #19 Dodge Dealers Dodge, Gillett-Evernham Motorsports
Like Bowyer, Sadler has been wildly inconsistent. He was 12th in Vegas, 8th in Charlotte, and 12th in Chicago. He also looked terrible at Atlanta and Texas. There is too much risk entailed in taking him on your team this week. David Reutimann, #44 UPS Toyota, Michael Waltrip Racing
With some of his recent performances, Reutimann is entering Vickers territory in the class C group. He was 10th in Charlotte and 14th in Chicago. He is currently riding a streak of 4 straight top 20's, including top 10's at Richmond and California. Look into him as your secondary class C option this week. Bobby Labonte, #43 Cheerios Dodge, Petty Enterprises
Labonte was a solid 11th in Charlotte, 17th in Vegas, 20th in Texas, and 12th at Atlanta. He took a step backwards with a 29th in Chicago, and shouldn't be on your roster this weekend. AJ Allmendinger, #84 Red Bull Toyota, Team Red Bull
Allmendinger is still on the hot seat with regard to his ride for next season. Like his teammate Vickers, Allmendinger has shown some strength on the 1.5 mile ovals. He was 13th in Chicago and 20th at Charlotte, and also had top 20 finishes at Dover, Fontana, Watkins Glen, and Indianapolis, showing the overall strength of his team.
