Fantasy NASCAR Preview: Bristol

11. Matt Kenseth, #17 DeWalt Tools Ford, Roush-Fenway Racing

Kenseth has 2 wins at Bristol: one in 2005 and one in 2006. He was 11th in this race last season, but crashed in August and ended up 39th. There are probably better class A options, but he has a solid history and could easily contend for the win if he avoids trouble. Nobody has scored more Cup points in the last 10 Bristol races than Kenseth.

12. Denny Hamlin, #11 FedEx Toyota, Gibbs Racing

Hamlin was next in line to win in this race last season after teammate Tony Stewart had a part failure. After leading 177 laps himself, he also had trouble and ended up 14th. He had an engine blow in the August event -- another bad finish that wasn't his fault. He could be a sleeper in the class A group this weekend.

13. Clint Bowyer, #07 Jack Daniel's Chevrolet, Richard Childress Racing

Bowyer was dreadful during 2006 at Bristol, but last season turned it around. He scored finishes of 8th in the spring and 3rd in August, following his trends at other tracks. He was a contender at Atlanta, showing strength for the first time all season. He could continue that this weekend, but there are better class A choices.

14. Ryan Newman, #12 ALLTEL Dodge, Penske Racing South

Newman ran well at Bristol last year in the August event, finishing 7th. He has 6 top 10's in 12 starts, but only 1 top 5. He was also 8th in August of 2006 and scored a 2nd place finish in the first event at Dover last year. He should be competitive, but there are likely much better class B picks.

15. Bobby Labonte, #43 Cheerios Dodge, Petty Enterprises

Labonte has been consistent this season, but hasn't really shown any ability to get inside the top 10. He was 11th at Daytona and 12th in Atlanta, and the team does look better than a year ago. He had an 8th place finish in August at Bristol, a big improvement from his 22nd place run in the March race. He is a plausible class B choice (like Newman and Truex), but there are better options on the top end of the classification.

16. Martin Truex, Jr., #1 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet, Dale Earnhardt Inc

Truex finally busted out at Bristol with an 11th place finish in the final event there last season. There are better class B choices, but don't be shocked when he starts piling up top 5's on the short tracks.

17. Jimmie Johnson, #48 Lowe's Chevrolet, Hendrick Motor Sports

Even with 10 wins during 2007, Johnson should not be on your class A roster this weekend. He has been just average at Bristol, with finishes of 10th, 16th, and 21st in his last three races.

18. Scott Riggs, #66 State Water Heaters Chevrolet, Haas Racing

Riggs is the top class C pick this weekend. He was 18th in the August event and don't forget he finished 4th in 2006 when he was still driving for Evernham Motorsports. He could surprise a few people this weekend; this is the same team that had Jeff Green finish 6th last spring.

19. Casey Mears, #5 Kellogg's/Carquest Chevrolet, Hendrick Motorsports

Mears had his best career finish at Bristol last spring, finishing 10th. He regressed again in August, ending up 22nd. He is capable of a top 15, especially in the equipment he has. However, there are better class B picks.

20. Jamie McMurray, #26 Crown Royal Ford, Roush-Fenway Racing

The 26 team may need a solid run more than any other team. McMurray has 4 top 10's in 10 starts at Bristol and was 9th last spring. His 26th place finish in August may be a better indicator of what this team is going to do Sunday; he shouldn't be on your fantasy team.
