Fantasy NASCAR Preview: Martinsville

11. Kurt Busch, #2 Miller Lite Dodge, Penske Racing South

The older Busch brother has disappeared in recent week. He hasn't finished any better than 6th in his last 6 starts and has only 2 top 10's in 10 starts since he won at Martinsville in 2002. He's capable of a top 5, but it's best to look elsewhere for your class A picks.

12. Clint Bowyer, #07 Jack Daniel's Chevrolet, Richard Childress Racing

Last year, Bowyer had runs of 11th and 9th at Martinsville, a complete turnaround from the mediocre finishes he had in his rookie season. Another top 10 is likely, but he's not the guy you want on your class A roster.

13. Kevin Harvick, #29 Shell/Reeses/GM Chevrolet, Richard Childress Racing

While Harvick is definitely a top 15 fantasy driver this weekend, he shouldn't be on your class A roster. He has never finished in the top 5 at Martinsville in 13 starts and his 5 top 10's are usually the result of survival, not domination.

14. Kasey Kahne, #9 Budweiser Dodge, Gillett-Evernham Motorsports

Kahne has had a strong start to the season, with 4 top 10's in 5 starts. He has a top 5 and 2 top 10's at Martinsville in 8 starts, including a 2nd place run in 2005. He was 15th in the fall and while there are probably better class B choices, he should be competitive once again this weekend.

15. Juan Pablo Montoya, #42 Texaco Havoline Dodge, Chip Ganassi Racing

Montoya could be a sleeper pick in the class B group this weekend. He shocked people last year with an 8th place run in the fall, following up his 16th place run in the spring. Even though it is an oval, his road course skills shine due to his ability to outbreak competitors going into turns, a skill that isn't as helpful on larger ovals where drivers try to float the car in and accelerate sooner. He's still a risky bet, but picking him could pay off.

16. Bobby Labonte, #43 Cheerios Dodge, Petty Enterprises

Labonte struggled at Martinsville last season, but did score a 3rd place finish there in the fall of 2006 and he has a win, 6 top 5's, and 13 top 10's in 30 starts. Labonte could be another sleeper in the class B group this weekend, although there are several "sure things" in that group, making risks less worth taking.

17. Carl Edwards, #99 Office Depot Ford, Roush-Fenway Racing

Edwards has never finished in the top 10 at Martinsville, although he did have an 11th place run in the fall. There are much stronger drivers available this weekend.

18. Scott Riggs, #66 State Water Heaters Chevrolet, Haas Racing

Riggs is the top class C pick again this weekend. He has always been good on short tracks, as evidenced by his past success at Bristol. He was 10th in the spring of 2006 at Martinsville, 8th last spring, and followed that up with a solid 16th place finish in the fall.

19. Martin Truex, Jr., #1 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet, Dale Earnhardt Inc

Truex is a great class B driver for most weekends, but probably should be left off your roster this week. He's capable of a breakthrough at anytime, but hasn't yet proven himself at Martinsville, after finishing 19th, 36th, 29th, and 19th in his 4 starts.

20. Brian Vickers, #83 Red Bull Toyota, Team Red Bull

Vickers didn't make a race last season at Martinsville, but did score a top 10 there in 2006. He has a lot of talent and is a good class C option this weekend.
