Fantasy NASCAR Preview: Michigan
11. Denny Hamlin, #11 FedEx Toyota, Gibbs Racing
Hamlin was the fastest car in testing at California and was 5th in the August race at Michigan, looking like he had a car capable of winning. He was involved in a wreck at Fontana after hitting a wet spot on the track, but he could contend for the win this weekend. He is more unproven than other class A choices, but is just a step below the top drivers in the category.
12. Greg Biffle, #16 3M Ford, Roush-Fenway Racing
Biffle has 2 wins and 6 top 10's in 10 starts at Michigan. He was 15th in Fontana, although he did lead 9 laps. As has been the case for most of the season, Biffle is a great class B choice.
13. Kevin Harvick, #29 Shell/Reeses/GM Chevrolet, Richard Childress Racing
Harvick was average last season at Michigan, finishing 7th and 15th. He continued that trend with a solid 8th at Fontana in the spring, but is probably not one of the better class A options.
14. Ryan Newman, #12 ALLTEL Dodge, Penske Racing South
Newman has won twice at Michigan in his career and has a couple of top 5's at Fontana. He was 10th at Fontana in February and should be a good class B choice this weekend.
15. Jeff Burton, #31 AT&T Mobility Chevrolet, Richard Childress Racing
It's easy to forget, but Burton is sitting 2nd in points and is only 21 out of the lead. He has been consistent at Fontana as of late, finishing 12th in February. However, he wasn't very good at Michigan last season. There are better places to use Burton.
16. Brian Vickers, #83 Red Bull Toyota, Team Red Bull
Vickers is coming off a 2nd place run at Pocono and was 11th at Fontana in the spring. He is a top flight class C choice this weekend, especially after his 8th place run in Michigan last summer.
17. Mark Martin, #8 Army Chevrolet, Dale Earnhardt Inc
Martin was 16th at Fontana in February and despite 4 wins and 27 top 10's in 44 starts at Michigan, he is not one of the top notch class B choices for the first time in several race weekends.
18. David Ragan, #6 AAA Ford, Roush-Fenway Racing
Ragan was decent at best last season in Michigan with finishes of 18th and 21st. He was 14th in Fontana earlier this year, following his trend of constant improvement at each track. He may be a sleeper pick in the class B tier this weekend.
19. Casey Mears, #5 Kellogg's/Carquest Chevrolet, Hendrick Motorsports
Mears had runs of 4th and 11th at Michigan last year. He also ran well at Fontana in 2006, but hit a wet spot in the February event and ended up with a poor finish. He could have a good run this weekend, but he's very unpredictable.
20. Clint Bowyer, #07 Jack Daniel's Chevrolet, Richard Childress Racing
Bowyer has a couple of top 10's at Fontana for his career, but has never finished better than 16th at Michigan. Save him for later in the season.
