Fantasy NASCAR Preview: Phoenix

11. Jeff Burton, #31 AT&T Mobility Chevrolet, Richard Childress Racing

Burton had runs of 9th and 13th at Phoenix last year and has two career wins on this track. Still, there are too many other class A guys who could contend for the win to pick him this week.

12. Ryan Newman, #12 ALLTEL Dodge, Penske Racing South

Newman has been consistently finishing in the top 15 all season. He ran strong in Texas last week and finished 5th in the fall race at Phoenix after leading 4 laps. He's a definite class B option this week.

13. Martin Truex, Jr., #1 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet, Dale Earnhardt Inc

Truex finished a solid 7th and led 72 laps in the fall. It was his first top 10 on the Arizona track. He also had a breakout run going at Texas before a blown engine ended his day. He should be considered for your class B roster this weekend.

14. Mark Martin, #8 Army Chevrolet, Dale Earnhardt Inc.

Martin has had a very good career at Phoenix, with 14 top 10's in 22 starts. He finished 12th in the spring, but didn't run the fall event. He's yet another good class B option.

15. Clint Bowyer, #07 Jack Daniel's Chevrolet, Richard Childress Racing

As well as Bowyer has been running lately, the class A group is too stacked to use him this weekend. He was 11th in the fall and also scored a 5th place finish in the spring of 2006. Just remember that you want to choose someone with a chance to win the race in class A; he probably won't.

16. Kurt Busch, #2 Miller Lite Dodge, Penske Racing South

Busch has had some success in his career at Phoenix, but his finishes of 18th and 12th last season don't translate to making him your class A selection.

17. Brian Vickers, #83 Red Bull Toyota, Red Bull Racing

Vickers is the top class C choice this weekend. He only ran one race in Phoenix last year (and finished 21st), but in 2006 (while driving for Rick Hendrick) he had finishes of 11th and 13th. Vickers knows how to get around Phoenix and should be on your roster this week.

18. Kasey Kahne, #9 Budweiser Dodge, Gillett-Evernham Motorsports

Kahne and the entire Evernham group has improved upon their dismal 2007 thus far, but he is still not one of the best class B options available this week. His finishes last season at Phoenix were disastrous and he crashed in the fall event. He does have a top 5 and 3 top 10's in 7 starts, but he's not worth a fantasy pick this weekend.

19. Bobby Labonte, #43 Cheerios Dodge, Petty Enterprises

Labonte has 9 top 10's in 18 starts after his 8th place run last spring, which he followed up with an 18th place run in the fall. He was also 5th in the fall of 2005 and 8th in the spring race last season. He is worth considering for your class B roster, although you probably wouldn't use him.

20. Reed Sorenson, #41 Target Dodge, Chip Ganassi Racing

Last season, Sorenson finished 15th in the spring and 19th in the fall. Not good enough to be on your roster, but more consistent than several other class B drivers.

21. Juan Pablo Montoya, #42 Texaco Havoline Dodge, Chip Ganassi Racing

Montoya was 17th in the fall, improving greatly on his 33rd place finish in the spring. He could be a good asset later in the season with his talent (if he starts proving his consistency at some point).

22. Casey Mears, #5 Kellogg's/Carquest Chevrolet, Hendrick Motorsports

Mears was 13th in the fall race, after a poor performance in the spring. He has never finished in the top 10 in Phoenix and shouldn't be on your roster this weekend.
