Martinsville is always one of the most interesting races on the circuit. It is run at a slower pace due to the tight corners and short length, but it always provides some of the most exciting racing in NASCAR. There aren't any other tracks like this one, and it's impossible to gauge how a driver and team will fare in attacking the half-mile by watching past races. Teams that dominate at Bristol or Richmond may completely miss the set up at Martinsville and end up outside the top 20.

1. Jimmie Johnson, #48 Lowe's Chevrolet, Hendrick Motor Sports

Johnson is the hottest driver in the series right now, and nobody has been hotter at Martinsville over the last few years (including Martinsville master Jeff Gordon). Johnson has 13 starts, 12 top 10's in a row, and 4 wins (including both races last season). He was 4th in the spring after leading 135 laps, and should be on your class A roster this weekend.

2. Jeff Gordon, #24 DuPont Chevrolet, Hendrick Motor Sports

Gordon was 2nd in the spring and had runs of 2nd and 3rd at Martinsville last season. He led over 90 laps in each of those three races and has 7 wins on the Virginia half-mile. He should be on your class A roster this week.

3. Denny Hamlin, #11 FedEx Toyota, Gibbs Racing

Hamlin won the spring event at Martinsville after leading 82 laps, and had finishes of 3rd and 6th last year. He had a good shot at winning in each of those races, and should be considered a great class A option this weekend - especially since he won't be as useful as Johnson at the other remaining tracks.

4. Jeff Burton, #31 AT&T Mobility Chevrolet, Richard Childress Racing

The last time the series visited Martinsville, Burton was coming off a win at Bristol. This time, he is coming off a win at Charlotte. Burton was 3rd in the spring and led 37 laps, and will look at add to his 14 top 10's in 28 career starts this weekend.

5. Dale Earnhardt Jr, #88 AMP/National Guard Chevrolet, Hendrick Motorsports

Jr. has finished in the top five 7 times, and was 6th in the spring after leading the most laps (146). He is one of the best class B choices this weekend.

6. Tony Stewart, #20 Home Depot Toyota, Gibbs Racing

Stewart was 5th in the spring, giving him 3 top 10's in his last 4 starts at Martinsville (his worst finish was 13th). With his 2 wins and 11 top 10's in 19 starts, he's another solid option this weekend in the class A group.

7. Kyle Busch, #18 M & M's/Snickers Toyota, Gibbs Racing

Busch led 106 laps last fall at Martinsville, and finished 4th both times he started there in 2007. He ran into some trouble in the spring, but he could contend for the win Sunday.

8. Ryan Newman, #12 ALLTEL Dodge, Penske Racing South

Newman was 19th in the spring, but don't let that deter you. He was 2nd in the fall event in 2007 after a solid 14th in the spring. He has 5 top 5's in 13 starts at this half-mile short track.

9. Kevin Harvick, #29 Shell/Reeses/GM Chevrolet, Richard Childress Racing

Harvick has 5 top 10's in his career at Martinsville in 14 starts, and was 12th in the spring. Still, he has never scored a top 5 and shouldn't be your class A selection this weekend.

10. Clint Bowyer, #07 Jack Daniel's Chevrolet, Richard Childress Racing

Bowyer was 10th in the spring, right on par with his 11th and 9th place runs last year. He's another guy that will probably finish well, but won't give you the firepower you want out of your class A driver.

11. Jamie McMurray, #26 Crown Royal Ford, Roush-Fenway Racing

McMurray was 8th in the spring and also scored a top 10 finish in 2007. He's capable of another finish like that this week. Where he has traditionally been good, he has run well; everywhere else he has struggled. This team will undergo some changes this winter.

12. Carl Edwards, #99 Office Depot Ford, Roush-Fenway Racing

Edwards was 11th last fall, and scored his first career top 10 at Martinsville in the spring when he finished 9th. There are better class A options.
