2013 NFL Draft Picks By Team: Vikings

After overcoming a tough childhood without his parents and being raised by his grandmother, University of Florida's Sharrif Floyd is a defensive tackle with some versatility to where he can line up on the field. He projects now as a 4-3 DT and could eventually grow into a powerful 3-4 DE later in his career. While not overpowering in his strength, Floyd can anchor well when he keeps his hips low. Long arms allow him to disrupt his blocker's assignment and with his above-average motor, he brings intense effort every play. Good first step, decent speed but not a great pass rusher at this time. Plays tight and must learn to bend when turning the corner around an offensive tackle. Average bull rush. Floyd will need to be groomed wherever he lands since while he is very versatile, he's a jack of all trades. Doesn't generate much push against the run and he fares better when he shakes loose early in order to flow towards the football. His work ethic is not a problem, yet he may need to hit the weight room to add a little more bulk through his frame. Given his great measurables, some scouts will really like his ceiling. Others might see a project who, despite his size and quickne... [Read More]
Florida State Seminoles cornerback Xavier Rhodes is a good-sized player with physical flashes and consistent coverage skills. After being unfairly overshadowed early in his career by teammate CB Greg Reid, Rhodes has become one of the top prospects in the 2013 draft class. Rhodes could move to safety if needed, but for now, his height and physicality are his best assets. He is great in run support and doesn't shy away from contact. Great length allows him to contest well for 50/50 balls, although he isn't a pure ball hawk. If he does allow a reception, he quickly smothers receivers and limits any further production. Not as aggressive in pass coverage and avoids getting beat on big plays well. Plays and sticks with his assignment well if a play breaks down. Average read/react when jumping routes. Doesn't explode to the ball, but can eat up ground to close on the play. Lacks in man coverage. He must win the battle in the first five yards and does well to use his strength to his advantage against bigger receivers. Rhodes projects as an late-first to early second round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.... [Read More]
University of Tennessee wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson is a well-built receiver with serious athleticism. Although he is unpolished as a route runner, once he has the ball in his hands, he has great YAC potential and can be a game-breaker from anywhere on the field. Patterson has a very deceptive game considering his size and frame. He shields defenders away from the ball well and shows above-average hands to bring in tough receptions. Good body control and a bit unorthodox in his use of head/shoulder fakes and jukes to throw off defenders. Has the ability to turn a 5-yard drag into an 80-yard touchdown catch and run. Outstanding vision in the open field with long strides and unexpected top-end speed. Experienced kick returner. Violent runner who needs to become more precise in his route-running. Former top junior college prospect. Patterson will sometimes try to do too much with the ball in his hands by running east to west and some coaches may not fully appreciate this quality. Patterson projects as a first round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.... [Read More]
Penn State Nittany Lions outside linebacker Gerald Hodges has good coverage skills and should play as a rotational player in a lot of passing situations. Still developing in some areas of the game like taking on blocks and using improved fundamentals when pursuing downhill in the run game. Previously played safety in his career, which explains his talent in coverage. Good range versus the run and although he is a little flat in his pursuit angles. Can get eaten up by blockers. Sometimes plays out of control and will lose balance in the hole or not be squared up properly to lay a quality hit on the ball-carrier. Very raw as a pass rusher, limited experience. Relies on instinct and effort, but loses leverage frequently.... [Read More]
UCLA Bruins punter Jeff Locke was highly decorated with awards and recognition through his collegiate career. Led the Pac-12 with 34 punts inside the 20-yard line and 21 punts inside the 10-yard line. Led nation with 68 touchbacks. Invited to Senior Bowl. Four-year starter. Excellent accuracy. Continued improvement each season. Averaged 44.23 yards per punt over career. Compact two-step release. Good distance and hang time on punts and kickoffs. Should challenge to be starting punter as a rookie.... [Read More]
UCLA Bruins offensive guard Jeff Baca is a very aggressive blocker that plays to the whistle. Looks to finish his blockers. Excellent first punch. Enough mobility to pull. Looks to lay out defenders. Good fits when taking on defenders at the second level. Average height and could afford to add a few pounds. Excellent drive blocker. Good awareness when helping out teammates on their blocks. Always churning his feet. Looks to move defenders off their mark. Some overpursuit issues with his aggressive style at times. Above-average arm length. Devastating when he can extend his arms.... Penn State Nittany Lions inside linebacker Michael Mauti has overcome three serious ACL injuries during his collegiate career. Relies on read and react skills. Well built. Good strength and tackles well. Wraps up and doesn't let go. So-so athleticism. Below-average top speed. Good upper body strength. Decent in coverage. Just a little undersized for an ILB. Good take-on skills. Looks to run over players. Average closing burst and short-area agility. Not fluid enough in his footwork and up through his hips.... [Read More]
University of North Carolina offensive guard Travis Bond has great length and provided a good inside push for the Tar Heels. Rare arm length. Excellent frame and musculature. Still developing proper techniques. Below average anchor. Doesn't properly use arm length advantage. Doesn't play with an edge. Sometimes appears to just go through the emotions. Poor flexibility. Lunges when tired. Adequate upper body strength. Not explosive enough given his size. Inconsistent with maintaining a healthy playing weight.... [Read More]
Florida State Seminoles defensive tackle Everett Dawkins gets off the line very quickly and should be a good fit as a one-gap defender. Very low pad level. A bit undersized, but can also plays with excellent pad level. Aggressive style of play. Doesn't always extend with his arms and will get drawn into an opponent's frame. Can redirect blockers. Flashes a spin move. Underwhelming size and strength. Must add more bulk. Rotational option. Nice array of pass rushing moves. Great first step and closing burst.... [Read More]
