2013 NFL Mock Draft

Round 1 (part 3) of 2

33. (2.1) JAX: Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia
Someone will trade up into the first round to get Geno Smith, but since I am not showing trades, Jacksonville would be ecstatic to have a QB with the overall talent and skill set as Smith fall into round two. Smith brings the ability to be an offensive threat both with his arm and legs. Smith will be starting early his rookie year with Blaine Gabbert as his competition, even though that may not be in his best interest.
34. (2.2) SF: Jonathan Jenkins, NT, Georgia
Jenkins will be a monster at nose tackle and take a lot of pressure off the Aldon and Justin Smith as well as free up bigger lanes for Willis and Bowman to shoot through. He will improve this unit immediately against the run, which is a scary thought.
35. (2.3) PHI: EJ Manuel, QB, Florida State
Manuel will be better then Barkley in Chip Kelly's up tempo offense. Manuel is very big and will be a Ben Roethlisberger line presence in the pocket, but also an effective scrambler. Manuel has an NFL arm and can make every throw in the book, but he needs to work on his accuracy and consistency.
36. (2.4) DET: Menelik Watson, OT, Florida State
Detroit lost Gosder Cherilous and Jeff Backus retired, they need to draft someone to protect Stafford's blind side or he and Calvin Johnson can be neutralized with pass rush pressure. Watson is bursting at the seams with potential and is already good enough to start. He can play either tackle position, but with his athleticism, should find a home at left tackle.
37. (2.5) CIN: Matt Elam, S, Florida
Elam slides out of the first round for no good reason, and Cincinnati is thrilled that a player they will consider drafting in the first round is there at their second pick. The Bengals really made a drastic improvement to an already solid defense with their first two picks.
38. (2.6) ARI: Matt Barkley, QB, USC
Carson Palmer will be the QB for the next year or two, but Barkley could end up the next Aaron Rodgers because of Barkley's ability to sit and learn the system as well as the intricacies of the NFL game from a Veteran QB. Barkley is as good as any QB in this draft based on both his mental and physical capabilities at the QB position.
39. (2.7) NYJ: Johnthan Banks, CB, Mississippi State
Banks fell as a result of other cornerbacks rising up the draft board. Banks has impressive length, coverage skills and playmaking ability. He also shows a willingness to attack and be effective in run defense. He will be a useful addition to this secondary.
40. (2.8) TEN: Jamar Taylor, CB, Boise State
Jamar Taylor plays bigger then his size and tied for the lead in bench reps at the combine amongst cornerbacks. After running a sub 4.39 forty and showing good quickness he starting flying up draft boards. He will be a good third cornerback on this team and provide depth that they lacked last year.
41. (2.9) BUF: Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee
Buffalo needs a compliment to Stevie Johnson and the big 6'4'' Justin Hunter is exactly what the Bills are looking for. Hunter has good speed for his size and long arms to snag some deep balls and be a threat in the red zone.
42. (2.10) MIA: David Amerson, CB, North Carolina State
Amerson came into this season as the top cornerback in college football, but did not play up to expectations, getting caught gambling far too often. He answered questions about his speed by running a fast forty and if he can play more disciplined, he can return to the player who had 13 interceptions in 2011.
43. (2.11) TB: Zach Ertz, TE, Stanford
Tampa Bay has two very good receivers and a great young running back on this team, but there is no threat at the tight end position. Ertz brings rare receiving skills for a tight end, who can split out wide and play like a wide receiver. He should make this offense very dangerous.
44. (2.12) CAR: DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson
Steve Smith is defying age by continuing to play at a high level, but time will eventually catch up to him. Hopkins is a good route runner with good size, strength and arm length. He was very productive last year, amassing 18 touchdowns, and should form a reliable weapon for Cam Newton.
45. (2.13) SD: Justin Pugh, OG, Syracuse
Pugh can play both guard and center at an extremely high level, which is prefect because San Diego needs help all over this line. They will have found two immediate starters next year with the top two picks.
46. (2.14) STL: Montee Ball, RB, Wisconsin
Steven Jackson has been a fixture for the past decade at RB, so they don't have much talent behind him. Montee Ball would probably be part of a committee of running backs on this team as a rookie, but would easily be the most talented back of the group and is one of the only running backs in this draft capable of being a three down player.
47. (2.15) DAL: Kawann Short, DT, Purdue
Short will be a pass rushing threat on the inside next to Jay Ratliff next year and will create a dominant pass rushing defensive line with Damarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer. The Cowboys will improve the talent at defensive tackle and get younger along the defensive line.
48. (2.16) PIT: Robert Woods, WR, USC
Woods is a very solid all around receiver and an elite route runner with great hands and great blocking, which is a must for Steelers receivers. He reminds me a little bit of Hines Ward in that his combine numbers won't jump off the chart, but he always seems make plays and is a good blocker and hard worker. He should be a solid compliment to Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders.
