In today's NFL, it is not common for a 4-3 OLB prospect to receive much attention as a potential first round pick, but Alabama's C.J. Mosley may be the best prospect at his position and he could've come out during last year's draft. Mosley is an all-around, versatile prospect with excellent size and athleticism. Shows great discipline in staying on his reads and driving to the football in his lane. Fantastic run defender. Downhill style of play. Explosive closing burst. Not a huge hitter, but an effective wrap-up tackler. Tremendous range against running backs. Can make plays from sideline to sideline. Must improve his ability to deflect off of offensive linemen. Will get eaten up by bigger blockers. Usually does well to dig into blocker's chest with inside shoulder while keeping outside shoulder free. Above-average coverage skills and can hold his own dropping back into zones. Can rush the passer and loves to play aggressive. Will get his hands up and active in passing lanes. Not a natural edge rusher, but times his jump off the line well. Moves very well on the field with few false steps. At his best when staying aggressive. Should be an excellent weak-side LB. Jernigan really burst onto the scene over his last two seasons with the Seminoles. He wasn't even a full-time starter in 2012; however, he was firmly on the map as a potential star at the beginning of 2013 due to his supreme abilities to penetrate the backfield and disrupt play after play. Jernigan put on a great show in the BCS National Championship, despite losing some gas late in the game. He was in the backfield constantly and that skill is one of his best attributes. Shoots the gap at an elite level due to his outstanding short-area quickness and speed. Can anchor the line well despite his average size. Can split double teams regularly when he can the make the most of his quickness. Elite center of gravity and stays very low. Really active hands against the run, not so much against the pass. Quick off the line and good range in backside pursuit. Could use a little more bulk in his lower half to improve bull rush. Really impressive pass rush moves at this point of his football career, especially considering his age and starting experience. Good lateral agility with excellent burst. Very aggressive style of play. Celebratory after the play and shows a lot of positive emoti... [Read More]
After a great combine performance, Brooks is moving up draft rankings. While he still has room to improve in areas such as tackling and play discipline, the former FSU defensive back is a "fourth linebacker" type who can bring physicality to a defense. Brooks is a touch undersized at 5-foot-11. There are some durability concerns about that considering his aggressive style of play. Played a leadership role with the Seminoles and made a lot of play calls pre-snap as a senior. At his best against the run when he can play downhill and aggressive. Too often goes for highlight big tackle and needs to play more disciplined across the board. Leaves his feet when tackling. Excellent 40-yard dash time and elite straight line speed for the position. Short arms and a bit lean through his hips. Average ball skills and body control when in the air. Decent ability to undercut and knock the pass away. Strong pursuit angles and can mix it up with lead blockers. Showed a lot of improvement in his ability to read-and-react to routes. Good anticipation and instincts. Gets a good break on run plays. Still a bit tight in his lower half in coverage. May be a liability in slow-man coverage. Brook... [Read More]
