2007 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
personReggie Nelson, FS, Florida
Reggie Nelson attended Coffeyville Community College in Kansas for two years before transferring to Florida for the 2005 season. Nelson saw action his first year at Florida, but did not become a starter until this past year. He is an aggressive athlete on the field against the run or pass and always seems to be around the ball. He has excellent speed to keep up with receivers downfield and can play the run sideline to sideline. Nelson is an extremely hard-hitting safety with excellent tackling skills. He has a natural instinct to locate the ball after release and quickly make adjustments, if necessary, to make a play. Nelson has worked hard to improve his skills and dominated this season against some very talented receivers in the SEC. He is considered a bit undersized for a safety in the NFL and may need to add some bulk and strength to excel against bigger receivers. Nelson's value skyrocketed during the last part of the season through the BCS Championship game and will be one of the top safeties in the draft. He should be a minimum of a top 15 pick and could jump into the top 10 after workouts.
