2009 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC

Maualuga reminds many of another former USC linebacker, Junior Seau. Maualuga has great size and power. He may lack sideline to sideline speed, but does have good short-area quickness. He is surprisingly smooth for such a big linebacker. Maualuga has improved his instincts as a blitzer. Maualuga is a great middle linebacker prospect and in the right system could emerge as an even better pro than college player. Maualuga finished the 2007 season as USC's leading tackler with 79 tackles, including 10.5 tackles for a loss and 6 sacks. Maualuga had a great game in the 2008 Rose Bowl, including 3 sacks and an interception. He was named the game's "Outstanding Defensive Player." Maualuga is the most instinctual linebacker college football has seen in the last 5 years. He has shown an incredible knack for finding the ball early in the 2008 season. Maualuga sprained his knee in the fourth quarter of Southern California's loss to Oregon State. If he recovers from the injury and can remain productive without losing a step, he will be a top five selection in the 2009 draft.

God I can only pray he goes to Denver. I think he has a shot at still being available at the 12th spot and he would take that leadership role in the Broncos defense that they badly need. He is a leader and a hard hitter.

I would hate to see Rey as a Bronco trying to chase down LT or Sproles running in for automatic TD's like usual & with Broncos just moving to 3-4 they will find it tough to stop the run at first (Like SD struggled).
Rey inside SD's 3-4 makes more sense because he doesnt need to be a leader so soon in a SCHEME he never played in, He just needs to rush QB's & scare some RB's with lil attention on him (S.Merriman, J.Williams, S.Phillips, L.Castillo, S.Cooper, Q.Jammer, & A.Cromartie). Sorry so long.

TRADE UP A.J. IF ITS NECESSARY. (with his weak combine im sure he slips to #16)

Will go to either San Diego or Denver. More likely Denver since the Cutler trade. Brings the FUNK as its said. The boy likes to bring the wood and has great hands.Only problem is sometimes he gets lost in space. If he makes the wrong read could be a problem. He just has to trust his reads and use that weight on the inside to his advantage. Will only get better with age. I think a little bit farther along than Seau.I've watched him for four years, could really be a GREAT linebacker if he works hard.Freak of a speciman.
