2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
personKenny Iwebema, DE, Iowa
Kenny Iwebema will quietly make a difference for an NFL franchise next season. Iwebema isn't a spectacular defensive end prospect, but will be a quality member of a defensive line rotation. The 6'4", 267 lbs. senior has put together a solid career at Iowa. He finished his final season for the Hawkeyes with 28 tackles (5 tackles for loss), 3.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and broke up 2 passes in coverage. Iwebema has good size and technique for a defensive end. He is by no means the fastest DE in this year's class, but he has good quickness and pass rushing moves. Iwebema plays the run extremely well, making him more valuable on first and second downs. He seems to always find a way to contain running backs on toss and sweep plays to the outside. He finished his career with 116 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 4 passes broken up in coverage. Iwebema can drop into coverage on zone blitzes remarkably well for a man of his size. He may also find himself as an intricate part of some franchise's special teams. Iwebema blocked 4 kicks during his career at Iowa. He shows a real knack for getting pressure on opposing kickers and punters alike. Kenny Iwebema should hear his named called around the third or fourth round.
Iwebema's showing at the East-West Shrine game fell far short of expectations. His coaches saw brief glimpses of his talent, but not enough to impress anyone. Iwebema's effort has been challenged all throughout his career, but his physical tools have never been in question. He still has third or fourth round talent, but should work on his consistency if he hopes to actually be drafted there.
Kenny Iwebema had a very solid pro day in Iowa City. He ran the 40 yard dash in 4.77 seconds, a good time for a defensive end. He also displayed his strength and athleticism with 20 reps on the bench press, a 35 1/2 inch vertical leap, and a 9'8" long jump. Iwebema is very talented, but horribly inconsistent. He should ,however, be drafted late in round four or the middle of round five.
