2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas

McFadden has been the best running back in college football the past two seasons and he has the hardware to prove it, being a two-time winner of the Doak Walker Award. The two-time All-American is also a two-time runner-up for the Heisman Trophy. He joined Herschel Walker as the only Southeastern Conference backs to rush for 1,000 yards as a freshman, sophomore and junior, and he kept getting better every year. McFadden rushed for 1,113 yards and 11 touchdowns as a freshman, 1,647 yards and 14 TDs as a sophomore and 1,830 yards and 16 TDs as a junior. He had 10 100-yard efforts as a junior, including a phenomenal 321-yard performance against South Carolina. He has the rare combination of speed, vision and balance, and he doesn't shy away from hits (which gives him the ability to rack up significant yards after contact -- which NFL scouts love). He's also shown he's willing to be a physical blocker. While McFadden showed versatility by taking snaps at quarterback, he wasn't a significant factor in the Razorbacks' passing game. He only caught 21 passes for 164 yards as a junior. He will likely be utilized more as a receiver in the NFL, which only increases his value. With a high motor and explosiveness, McFadden seems to have all the tools to be a big-time performer at the next level. He figures to be a top-10 selection in the 2008 draft.
