2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Keenan Burton, WR, Kentucky

After battling injuries two straight years, Burton had a breakout campaign for the Wildcats in 2006, garnering All-Southeastern Conference recognition with 77 catches -- second most in the league -- for 1,036 yards and a league-best 12 touchdowns. The injury bug returned this season, but Burton fought through it to post another solid season with 66 receptions for 741 yards and nine TDs. Part of the reason for Burton's numbers being down from his junior season was drawing the attention of defenses, while the emergence of running mate Steve Johnson also played a factor. But, the playmaker was still feared by opposing defensive coordinators.

Burton has decent size and isn't afraid to take a hit, with him very effective working the middle of the field. He routinely sacrifices his body to make a catch. His ability to go up for the ball with good body control could make him a great threat in the red zone. He is also a capable runner after the catch, where he draws upon his solid return skills. His physical style also translates well to the running game, as he's a solid blocker. Scouts love his work ethic and leadership ability.

Most scouts' biggest concern about Burton is his average speed -- 4.50 40-yard dash. He also isn't real explosive. He'll have a hard time getting separation from NFL corners and he also drops balls more than scouts would like. He'll have to run very crisp routes, which hasn't been a strength. Past injuries will also lead to questions about his durability. He has enough tools to be a consistent performer in the NFL, though he's unlikely to be a No. 1 receiver. He projects to go on the first day of the draft.
