2009 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Jared Cook, TE, South Carolina
struggles at South Carolina. The tight end still, however, enjoyed a productive season. After catching 30 balls for 421 yards and three touchdowns as a
sophomore, Cook hauled in 37 passes for 573 yards and three more touchdowns. He was named a First-Team All-SEC performer by the coaches and earned Second-Team
All-SEC honors from the media. He was also a semifinalist for the Mackey Award (nation's top tight end). If those accolades aren't enough to convince Cook to
enter the NFL draft now--after his junior season--his skills might. He has great size at 6'5'' and 242 pounds and he has awesome speed (can run under 4.6 in
the 40-yard dash) for a man of his stature. His athleticism and jumping ability allow him to play even bigger than his 6'5'' frame suggests. Other than
showing up absolutely huge in the stat book on a consistent basis, there's nothing that Cook lacks. If he decides to take his talents to the next level, Cook
could be off the board in the second round come next April. Becoming a first-round selection in 2010, if he returns, would also not be
surprising.
