Tracy Porter, CB, Indiana

Tracy Porter is a prospect that could shoot up draft boards this spring. Porter plays for a school with a little regarded football program that receives little to no television coverage. Porter was voted 1st team All Big Ten by the media this year and garnered 2nd team honors from the coaches. Porter is currently second among active NCAA players with 16 career interceptions (6 this season, with a 22.8 yard return average). As a four year starter at Indiana, Porter proved to be a dynamic player on the defensive side of the ball. Along with his lofty interception total, he has proven to have a knack for getting around the football. Porter has 24 career pass break ups, along with 5.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 fumble recoveries. He shows fantastic ability out in coverage, especially when playing man-to-man. Porter's tackling from the corner position is also among the best in the country. The 5'11", 185 lbs. Porter has recorded 83 tackles this season (63 of them solo). To go along with his abilities on defense, Porter is one of the better return men in the country. As a junior he averaged 18.6 yards per punt return -- scoring on an 86 yarder -- while only sharing the duties. During the regular season, Porter returned all 23 punts for the Hoosiers, averaging 11 yards per return. Porter proved his toughness to scouts recording 8 tackles (1 tackle for loss) against Oklahoma State. Porter suffered a mild concussion, but returned to the game to lead the Hoosier defense. Porter was impressive at Senior Bowl practices in Mobile, Alabama. According to Scouts Inc.'s Todd McShay: Porter showed arguably the best coverage skills of any defensive back attending. Porter had 4 tackles and broke up 1 pass in coverage for the North team, which lost 17-16. Porter's stock will only continue to climb with an impressive showing at the NFL combine. Tracy Porter ran a 4.37 second 40 yard dash and managed to do 18 reps on the bench press at the NFL Combine. Unfortunately for him, it didn't help his draft stock much. His numbers were impressive, but so were the numbers of most of the other top corner back prospects. Porter is one of ten corner backs who will likely be drafted before the second round ends. He should probably be selected in the top half of the second round. Tracy Porter keeps gradually raising his draft stock. He ran a 4.29 second 40 yard dash at Indiana's pro day in Bloomington. Porter is an outstanding cover corner and one of the better return men in this year's draft. Porter's final destination will depend greatly on team needs. He could go anywhere from the last few picks of the first round to the middle of the second round.
