2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Ryan Torain, RB, Arizona State

Torain does a great job of reading his blocks and has a great first cut. He is the type of runner that will thrive in a zone blocking scheme the way Selvin Young did prior to his injury this year with the Broncos. Torain does have a tendency to take a false step occasionally, which will hurt him at the next level due to the speed of the game. But, he has put up incredible numbers in Arizona State's potent offense this year, rushing for 524 yards in 5 games prior to his injury in a game against Washington. Torain does a great job of running north and south and hits the hole hard. He likes to deliver the blow against tacklers and will lower his shoulder into defenders in order to pick up yards after contact. He has good vision as a runner and loves to exploit cutback lanes against aggressive defenses. He has good size at 6'1" and 213 pounds and can likely add bulk to his frame. Torain is a good receiver out of the backfield and will likely contribute immediately as a third down back. Although, he had a disappointing combine, running a 4.61 forty yard dash. Torain will be a late round pick if he dos not improve on that time in his individual workout.
