2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Anthony Collins, OL, Kansas

This past season, Collins (along with his close friend and teammate Aqib Talib), were Kansas' first first-team All-Americans in more than 30 years. Just as they were first-team All-Americans together, they decided to enter the draft together and forgo their final season of eligibility to pursue their professional ambitions. Collins redshirted along with Talib in 2004 and in that time made the switch from defense to offense. He got on the field the next season, playing in eight games and starting one at his new position on the other side of the line. In his sophomore season, Collins started all 12 games at right tackle and was named AP All-Big 12 honorable mention. In 2007, Collins was the star of a line that blocked for one of the top offenses in the country, which produced 42.8 points and 479.8 yards per game. Collins protected record-setting QB Todd Reesing and blocked for 1,000 yard rusher Brandon McAnderson (who led a rushing attack that piled up 188.8 yards per game for the Orange Bowl champion and 12-1 Jayhawks). Collins is very agile for his size, as he's been timed as low as the 4.9 range. He currently projects as a second-round pick and the seventh offensive tackle on the board, according to NFLDraftScout.com. But, he will be attending the combine next month, where a great performance could further bump up his stock and maybe, just maybe, he could sneak into the first round, along with his friend, teammate, and fellow All-American. Update (4/26/08): After running a disappointing 5.5 second time in the 40 at the combine, Collins saw a big improvement at Kansas' Pro Day in March with a 5.26. He also did 26 reps in the bench press (same as at the combine) and had a vertical of 27 1/2 inches. Collins projects as at least a second-round pick in today's NFL Draft and could very well land in the bottom of the first round.
