2009 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Nathan Brown, QB, Central Arkansas

As a redshirt freshman in 2005, Brown played in all of the team's fourteen games -- starting the final nine games. He completed 189 passes out of 273 attempts for 2,410 yards (69.2%) with 25 TD and 10 INT. He started eight games in 2006, Completing 157 of 242 passes (64.9%) for 1,858 with 18 TD and 8 INT. In 2007, Brown played in eleven games, competing 256 out of 377 passes (67.9%) for 3,084 yards and 26 TD with 10 INT. Named Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Year. Brown has a solid frame and good football speed (4.76), with good scramble but is not fleet of feet. He has good arm strength also. Can be very accurate on the short to intermediate range. Lacks the pure arm strength to zipped down the field. Played on a "shot gun" type of offense. Most of his passes were short dump offs to RB or TE. Was not asked to make a lot of NFL-type reads. Level of competition is a concern. Best fitted for a West Coast type of offense. Lacks overall athletic ability to make a major contribution on the next level. If he makes it in the NFL, he would most likely be a life long backup. As of today, Brown is a late rounder (if he is even drafted at all). With a good season and an impressive showing in the post season games and the Combine, he could vault into the mid-to-late rounds.
