2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Sam Young, OT, Notre Dame

Young is one of the most experienced offensive line prospects in the nation. He is a four year starter for the Fighting Irish, but despite this he has rarely shined on what, until this year, was a mediocre unit. Young's best attribute is his immense size. He is a mammoth of a player with the lower body strength to hold his ground against bull rushers. Young is a better run blocker and shows good initial quickness, but can dominate with his size, strength and toughness. He is a hard worker, and his superb technique allows him to conceal his lack of agility. Although, he does lack athletic ability and speed (528). Has trouble with speed rushers and in the open field as a run blocker. Does not move well laterally and gets off balance at times. He must show more consistent leverage in pass protection, and improve his upper body strength and power. Young has experience at left tackle, but is probably a better fit to play the right side in the NFL. He has played in a pro set system his whole career, which should make the adjustment to the NFL a lot easier. Despite his attributes, he is limited because of below average athletic ability. Still, he projects as a good prospect and should be off the board by the middle of the second round.
