2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Earl Thomas, SS, Texas

Few players have come as far as Earl Thomas in such a short amount of time. The 5-10 strong safety was not that highly touted coming out of high school and redshirted his first year at Texas. As a redshirt freshman in 2008, Thomas totaled 72 tackles, two interceptions and broke up 17 passes. He was even an integral part of the special teams unit. Thomas is just a sophomore in 2009, but he will be eligible for the draft since he will be three years out of high school. He might leave early if he keeps performing like he has so far in 2009. Through six games, Thomas is second on the team with 27 tackles and has amassed an incredible five interceptions (and he even forced a fumble). Thomas' 5-10, 197 pound frame is not ideal for the NFL, but he is not a weak player. He has good coverage skills and a ton of speed, so he could be converted into a corner. However, he has enough strength to play strong safety in most systems and certainly has more than enough potential to develop into a consistent player. Thomas might have some more to prove before he is ready for the NFL; it would probably make the most sense for him to come back to Texas for at least one more year. 1/19 Update: Thomas kept up his impressive sophomore campaign and ended the year ranked second on the team with 77 tackles. More impressively, he picked off eight passes and broke up 16 more. His versatility is making his stock move up extremely quickly and Thomas should be a first or second round selection when all is said and done and that is why he opted to go pro after just two years of playing for the Longhorns.

Prediction: 1st Round

i hope the cowboys get him. much better chance now that NY has Rolle and Arizona has Rhodes. Also, Ryan Clark is visiting the Dolphins and will visit others (hopefully texans, bengals, philly, etc.). If Darren Sharper ends up away from the Saints, and safeties like antoine bethea, oshiomogho atogwe, or eric smith get traded, Dallas becomes a very high candidate. Still doesnt like look theyve got him though. Also, he wants to play for Dallas... just saying.

yes #12 to the dolphins. will compliment sean smith and vontae davis, they may take kindle from texas or mcclain from alabama since they do not have a quality linebacker but i can really see him in miami. almost reminds me of a bob sanders type, explosive and better feet than berry. best saftey in the draft. berry, mays, and allen have nothing on this guy, mays may get moved to linebacker if he gains another pound, berry has ed reed abilities but will probably end up with a michael huff career, and nate allen (usf) didnt participate in the combine because of injury so thomas is your guy at #1 in regards to safties

Going to Miami at #12. They just released Gibril WIlson; Thomas had a great combine as well so his stock is shooting up.

I'd love to see him as the Dolphins FS if they trade down and grab an extra pick aswell that would be amazing.

Steelers will need this guy a perfect compliment to troy polamalu with his talent.

forget the dallas cowboys what a waste of talent it would be to combined with sensabaugh thats disgraceful he deserves better. where fans wont boo him, will buy his jerseys and where he will not learn to choke in the playoffs.

Dallas can have him! He made a lot of int's this year but balls were thrown right at him! watch the film... There are 3 safeties in this draft better than him.

dallas definitely needs a nice compliment to gerald sensabaugh in the backfield. i dont know that ET will still be around this long though, he might not get past houston. i hope so, though.
