Roddrick Muckelroy, OLB, Texas

Texas has had a dominating defense over the last few years and Roddrick Muckelroy has been a huge part of that success. The 6-2 linebacker's career at UT got off to a slow start after redshirting in 2005 and missing all but three games in 2006 due to an injury. During his sophomore season in 2007, Muckelroy finally got a start at outside linebacker in the Holiday Bowl; He did not give up that starting job throughout the entire 2008 season. It was during that junior campaign when Muckelroy really turned into a leader of the unit. He totaled an impressive 112 tackles in 2008 and through six games of the 2009 season is easily leading the team with 40 tackles. However, Muckelroy's role has changed a little this season. He has started a majority of the games this year at the middle linebacker position instead of at outside linebacker. At 6-2 and 235 pounds, Muckelroy still projects to the NFL as an outside linebacker, but his versatility is becoming a big plus. He may not be the fastest or the strongest linebacker in the draft, but he simply makes plays and knows how to win. On a team that boasts plenty of NFL talent, it is Muckelroy who is emerging as the team's leader on defense and that says a lot about his character. 2/15 Update: Muckelroy proved to be a leader during the BCS National Championship game, but when it comes down to it, nobody is quite sure which position he should play. He has been a productive outside linebacker, but some think he would be better off as a nickel back. Where he ends up depends on what team drafts him, but he has the talent of a third or fourth rounder either way.

Prediction: 3rd Round

At this point I wouldn't mind my Rams drafting him in the 2nd round but I think he'll last until the 3rd or 4th round. Adding him to a defense that already has Chris Long, James Larinaitis, Oshiomo Atogwe and Suh (we'll get him in the 1st round) would probably turn our defense into a top-10 or top-15 defense, overnight.
