2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Ted Larsen, C, North Carolina State
Ted Larsen has not spent much time playing at the center position. For the first three years of his career at North Carolina State, he was playing on the other side of the ball. But as an upperclassmen, Larsen has emerged as one of the best centers in the nation. It is not like Larsen was a poor defensive player. As a redshirt freshman in 2006 he earned three starts and he tallied four tackles-for-loss and three sacks as a defensive tackle in 2007. However, at the time, the Wolfpack's offense was struggling mightily and something had to be done. Part of the answer was moving Larsen to center. His impact was immediately felt and Larsen wasted little time securing the starting job in 2008. That success got the attention of everybody heading into the 2009 campaign. Larsen did not disappoint in 2009, but he also did not improve as much as one could have expected for a player who spent just one season at a position. But that still makes Larsen among the top five or six centers in this class; with some good workouts, he could be a fourth or fifth round selection. 2/1 Update: Larsen's workouts are not going too well so far. While he was not bad during the practices and workouts, Larsen snapped a ball well over quarterback Jarrett Brown's head in the Senior Bowl. Bad snaps happen, but this one was really bad and Larsen's inexperience at center will now be on the minds of many.
