2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Eric Moncur, OLB, Miami

Eric Moncur could play defensive end or outside linebacker in the NFL, depending on the system; however, his injury and lack of production in 2009 have his stock dropping pretty quickly. That lack of production has not always been the case. After redshirting in 2004, Moncur immediately made an impact off the bench in 2005. In 2006 he earned three starts and continued to improve. By his junior year Moncur was the usual starter at left defensive end and finished the season with 48 tackles, 11.5 tackles-for-loss and 6.0 sacks. His senior season in 2008 was supposed to be when he carried the Miami defensive line, but that did not happen after he missed the last nine games of the season with an injury. He got a medical hardship to return in 2009, but injuries continue to be a problem and Moncur has not lived up to his earlier production. Moncur should be ready to return by the end of the 2009 collegiate season, but even when he has been on the field this year, he has not been very productive. In the five games he has played in, he has totaled just ten tackles and a mere one sack. Those numbers better improve and Moncur better prove that his injuries are behind him if he wants to be anything more than a late round draft pick. 2/1 Update: Moncur made a brief appearance at the Champs Sports Bowl against Wisconsin, but failed to tally a tackle or prove that he is healthy. Now Moncur has to have some impressive individual workouts leading up to the draft to even have a chance to hear his name called on draft day.
