2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Reggie Carter, ILB, UCLA

One of the most promising freshmen in the nation back in 2006, Carter was slowed by a knee injury back in 2007. Despite missing some playing time, the energetic 6-foot-1 linebacker still managed to record 62 tackles, 12 for loss, with 2 sacks. He had an outstanding junior campaign, gathering career-high in tackles (84); earning PAC-10 All Conference second team honors following his 2008 campaign. Has good size and strong lower body. Is tough and savvy with tons of experience. Has better-than-average recognition skills and usually makes quick reads. Is physical and aggressive. Plays with great motor and does not give up on plays. Is a powerful tackler with good, open field skills. Is typical in position to make tackles in pursuit. Has solid instincts and is discipline. However, lacks quickness and doesn't have great speed (4.75). Does not show a great burst off the line or acceleration after the play has developed. Lacks the ability to change directions and adjust in space. Do not make mistakes but lacks the sheer talent and ability to excel in man coverage. In a loaded class, Carter's lack of one superb attribute devalues his stock. Still, his consistent production against top tier programs cannot be overlooked. He has the ability to help a team immediately on special teams, but his lack of speed hurts him. Look for him to be selected early in Day 2.
