2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Carlton Mitchell, WR, South Florida

On a run-orientated South Florida team, Carlton Mitchell flew well under the radar. His 706 receiving yards in 2009 broke the Bulls' team record in a season and he never caught more than four touchdown passes in one campaign. Those unimpressive numbers kept him off the NFL radar, but he was obviously the best receiver to play at USF during his three year tenure. Yet, it was still a surprise when he left early for the NFL and most scouts and coaches did not know what they were in store for when they saw Mitchell. But it was at the NFL Combine when most teams got their first good look at the 6-3, 215 pound receiver. And Mitchell showed everybody why he could leave school early and shoot for a career in the NFL. He proved to have a lot more speed and athleticism than most gave him credit for and that has started his rise up the draft board. Mitchell is not the strongest receiver around, but he can never be faulted for his lack of toughness. In the end his hands and route running need some work, but Mitchell could turn into a superb receiver at the next level. His lack of hype will probably keep him in the third round, but he has all the tools necessary to be a great playmaker at the next level.

Prediction: 2nd Round

If he is drafted in a position where not much is expected i.e. 4th or later, he has a chance, if he goes earlier where he would have to play right away, he'll be exposed early.
