2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Brandon Saine, RB, Ohio State
Saine excels as a pass-catcher out of the backfield and Ohio State has used him all over the field in order to create mismatches along the outside. He is the type of player that needs the open field to display his true talents. Saine has very good speed and a natural elusiveness. He must continue to develop his field vision and understand when to go north and south as he can sometimes try to force plays that aren't there.
Saine, unfortunately, is not a true running back prospect. He can take on defenders in open space and even power his way through them after the catch, but he does not have the lateral quickness to make fast cuts while maintaining his forward momentum.
He will need to find a team willing to use him in unique ways (like Kansas City's Dexter McCluster). Saine is a natural leader and has a great competitive fire.
Brandon Saine currently projects as an undrafted free agent.
