2012 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
George Bryan, TE, North Carolina State
After redshirting in 2007, George Bryan was forced into action as a freshman. The top two tight ends on the depth chart struggled through some injuries and Bryan stepped up and did a superb job considering the circumstances. On the year, Bryan started six games and caught 18 passes for 201 yards. Bryan also used his 6'5'', 265 pound as a great target in the red zone and ended his freshman season with four of his 18 receptions going for touchdowns.
The Castle Hayne, NC native was a model of consistency over the past three years. He had 40 catches for 422 yards and six touchdowns as a sophomore, 35 catches for 369 yards and three touchdowns as a junior, and 33 catches for 331 yards and four touchdowns as a senior.
Bryan has the size to be a solid tight end in the NFL. He has good hands, decent quickness (has been clocked as fast as 4.90 in the 40-yard dash) and is a good enough blocker to hold his own at the next level. Bryan likely will never be a Pro Bowler unless he somehow gets a lot faster, but he is fundamentally sound as both a receiver and blocker. He should be drafted at some point, but don't expect it to come before the fifth or sixth round.
