2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Lyle Leong, WR, Texas Tech
The 2009 season was the last under Coach Mike Leach and the Red Raiders had an amazing 11 receivers who had over 100 receiving yards. With players like Detron Lewis and Alexander Torres taking a majority of the catches, it was difficult for Leong to separate himself from those other receivers. Leong ended the season catching 45 passes for 571 yards. By Texas Tech standards those are not great numbers, but Leong did emerge as a superb big play receiver and led the team with nine touchdown receptions. Leong surpassed those other receivers in 2010. While he ranked second to Lewis in receptions, Leong was again the big play receiver and had a team high 808 receiving yards and 17 receiving touchdowns. Those 17 touchdown receptions were nearly half of all of the Red Raiders' receiving touchdowns.
His knack for getting into the end zone has catapulted Leong onto the national radar. He is still somewhat considered a product of the system, but Leong has been the one player who continued to make big play after big play. Measuring in at slightly under six feet, Leong will have to have some good workouts to move his stock up into the middle rounds, but he is a proven scorer.
