2012 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi State
Cox announced in early January that he would bypass his senior season at Mississippi State and enter the 2012 NFL Draft. And why not? The defensive tackle is coming off a brilliant 2011 campaign in which he led the Bulldogs with 14.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. He also had 56 tackles, two blocked kicks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery that he returned for 52 yards. Cox has a decent amount of experience despite only being a junior, as he played in 12 games as a freshman and started 11 contests as a sophomore.
The Yazoo City, MS native has good size at 6'4'' and 295 pounds. He has great quickness off the ball, although he sometimes struggles when he draws double-teams. Cox can add some pounds to his impressive frame and he will probably have to do so in order to be an elite performer at the next level. He is a good character guy who gives 100-percent effort on every play and he heads into the NFL with no real red flags of any kind. Look for Fletcher to go off the board sometime during round two of the draft.
