2012 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Shea McClellin, DE, Boise State
McClellin's appeal focuses on his versatility. He can play along the line or outside. At the combine, he exhibited enough athleticism to not only seal the edge, rush the passer and drop back into short coverages, but many believe McClellin has the frame to add more muscle and contribute as a DE at times.
The risks here are obvious. If he adds weight, he could lose speed. If he can't retain the weight, he's a bit undersized and bigger offensive linemen would eat him alive. Teams are banking on him playing around 275 pounds, which is a good 20 pounds heavier than his playing weight with the Broncos.
Look for McClellin to come off the board after pick No. 24. A run of 3-4 defenses (Pittsburgh, Denver, Houston, Green Bay, New England twice, Baltimore and San Francisco) have picks available at that point and he'd be very valuable to those teams and their multiple defensive fronts.
