2012 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Michael Brockers, DT, LSU
The Houston, TX native has great size at 6'6'' and 306 pounds. He generally runs in the 4.9s of the 40-yard dash and he has been clocked as fast as 4.86 from that distance. Brockers is extremely agile for his size, and his side-to-side movement makes him a real force as a run defender. His pass-rushing skills can be improved by working on his first step off the ball and by adding some more bulk to his frame (and he definitely has room to do so). Brockers does not have a ton of experience, so he will likely be used as a situational defensive tackle for at least a season or two. At the same time, his future upside is huge, so he should be a first or second-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Makes sense at #11-#19 overall. Not a game-changer.

Easily first round player. Easily one of the best and most dominant DTs in the draft. Big time athletic freak. Was a 6'5 255 lb DE when recruited out of high school. Got recruited by LSU to play DE. Showed up to school 6'6 and 265 and it was evident early that this guy had a lot of room on his frame to grow and that he would be pushing 300 pounds quickly so they moved him to DT and red-shirted him. Brockers was credited by the team, players and coaches, for being much of the reason that their defense was so dominant this year. He is valued not just because of the level he played this past year, his 2nd year playing DT, but because of how quickly he rose to the level he's playing and realizing that he's got a lot more room to grow both physically and mentally at the position.
He's got a proven ability to grasp things quickly. He's shown he's very coachable. He's got a motor that wears out the double teams that are forced to try and block him all game. As a run stuffer he has been the most impressive, but as a pass rusher is where you will see him do the most growth as a pro.
One thing that comes naturally to him is getting his hands up when the QB is throwing. This is going to equate to deflected passes on a regular basis.
He may not be a stat monster in sacks, but what he does is force attention towards himself that takes pressure off other pass rushers and shortens the amount of time that QBs have to throw.
Once people start watching tape on this guy and after the combine there is going to be little question about what Brockers is capable of. He will very likely be the first or second DL taken in the draft and will be considered a top 10 talent and draft pick.

Nobody on this site has him in the 1st round, that's odd.

I like Brockers but i don't see that very step explosiveness that you'd expect from someone your considering in the early or mid 1 st round.
