2013 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

D.J. Hayden, CB, Houston

University of Houston cornerback D.J. Hayden is the ultimate comeback story and what better way to begin the next chapter of his football career than being one of the draft's top picks at this position.

Hayden nearly died after a serious on-field collision during practice last November. Reports suggest most teams have cleared him medically. What scouts really like about him is his press-man coverage and aggressive style of play. Not only can he play physical near the line of scrimmage, he has impressive speed and burst.

Can play on an island and displays elite-level instincts and route recognition. Often gets a jump on receivers and can shield his body nicely to go after INTs. Doesn't have great hands and average leaping ability. Flashed some excellent INT return skills by bringing two back for TDs last season. Very fluid footwork and hips. Almost no wasted motion when changing directions. Takes intelligent pursuit lines while avoiding contact.

Reliable tackler in space. Wraps up well and can knock the ball loose on second contact. Stays disciplined in his tackling mechanics.

Recent reports suggest Hayden could be the second corner drafted. He projects as a first round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
