2013 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Dion Sims, TE, Michigan State

Michigan State Spartans tight end Dion Sims certainly passes the eyeball test. A big bodied prospect who also has soft hands and may be able to contribute some depth as a rookie.

Sims is well-rounded right now and could use polish across the board. Has the frame and length to develop his blocking. Should have no issues as an in-line blocker. Must maintain a better pad level, staying low and sinking his hips. He has soft hands and can catch balls away from his body. His large frame does create some issues with flexibility when twisting back or bending down for a catch.

Long striding speed and lacks a second gear. Does a good job quickly transitioning upfield after the catch for more yards. Former basketball player and boxes out nicely.

Strong punch when blocking. Latches on well. Identifies defenders at the second level and can take them out of the play. Tough, but not a true mauler. Above-average balance and footwork at this stage. Solid route runner and must be more crisp in and out of his breaks. Long, fluid acceleration.

Sims projects as a fourth round prospect in the 2013 NFL Draft.
