2014 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Marcus Smith, DE , louisville

Smith was the 2013 AAC Defensive Player of the Year, an award that was well-deserved. He piled up 14.5 sacks, the second-most in all of college football.

Long athlete with excellent body control. Shows excellent bend around the corner. Good first step and explodes into offensive linemen. Looks to affect balance and tie up his opponent's feet. Very athletic and agile. Still has some room to add a little more mass if need be. Lacking in core strength. Can get pushed around if a blocker gets his hands inside. Must disengage more quickly and find a way to be more effective in holding his ground. Average hand work. Still growing as a pass rusher. Played QB in high school.

Good lateral quickness with fast, choppy footwork. Inconsistent at setting the edge. Too often washed out of plays. Limited to a 4-3 DE role. Above-average pass rush moves. Steady improvement since entering college. Motor faded at times against below-average opposition.

Smith projects as a late second to third round prospect in the 2014 NFL Draft.
