2014 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Dee Ford, DE , Auburn

Ford is a prototypical pass-rushing defensive end who can bend the edge with speed and an explosive burst off the line. He has a chance to hear his name called on Day 1, but this largely depends on if he garners any interest from 3-4 teams who feel he could transition to OLB.

Has a natural athleticism and put that on display at the Senior Bowl with two sacks. Practiced really well and boosted his draft stock. Unable to work out at the Combine due to undisclosed medical reasons.

Long arms and good musculature on his frame. Bends well off the edge without compromising his speed. Can quickly adjust to a quarterback sliding and evading in the pocket. Adequate skills against the run. Lacks the girth to anchor and can be pushed off his mark. Must work on using hands to better initiate contact and dictate against stronger, heavier offensive tackles. Good feel at flowing to the football and weaving through traffic.

Tweener DE/OLB. Undersized as a 4-3 DE and may eventually transfer to 3-4 OLB. Decent in the open field. Limited experience at OLB. High energy player and good motor. Tackling is average. Relies on speed to initiate collisions and technique will sometimes suffer. Must more consistently wrap-up and drive his weight into ball-carriers.

Ford projects as a late first round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft and his stock is on the rise.

Prediction: 1st Round

1st round to New Orleans makes a lot of sense. Since I'm a Raiders fan, I hope he doesn't end up with the Broncos. But that would also be a natural fit as I think he's best suited as a 3-4 OLB.
