2007 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Matt Gutierrez, QB, Idaho State

Gutierrez's size (6-4, 232 pounds) makes him an intriguing prospect at the quarterback position, but he is nothing more than a project right now. He simply does not have anywhere near enough experience to step in and produce at the next level. In fact, Gutierrez has played barely more than one full season at the collegiate level, and that full season came in 2006 at Division 1-AA Idaho State University. He initially committed to Michigan with a good chance of becoming the Wolverines' next great signal-caller. He won the job as a redshirt freshman but tore the labrum in his right shoulder and never regained his position as starter. So there are obvious concerns about his durability as well. Considering Gutierrez's size, it's no surprise that he lacks ideal speed and mobility. He does, however, possess better than average arm strength and can throw a beautiful deep ball. Gutierrez is a potential late-round pick at best in April's NFL Draft.
