2014 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Ryan Shazier, LB , Ohio State

Shazier put together some great years and was a consistent winner with the Buckeyes. This rangy, fast linebacker has the necessary athleticism to make an immediate impact in the NFL, but may need to add some bulk as his frame more closely resembles a strong safety. He opted to forgo his senior year to make the leap into the NFL.

Shazier has sideline-to-sideline range against the run. Has just enough height and length to cover TEs to go along with noticeable fluidity in coverage. Tracks the play well and with his smaller frame, weaves through traffic suddenly. Really great instincts and proved to be a tackling machine for Ohio State. Not enough bulk to punish the ball-carrier in tight spaces. Makes most of quickness and agility when taking on blockers. Will sometimes get swallowed up if he gets inside the clutches of an offensive lineman.

Average tackler. Relies on quickness to generate power. A little too aggressive in pursuit angles. Pretty good in zone. Does a nice job feeling each route and watching the quarterback's eyes. Fast enough to bring a great blitz on the edge. Shows above-average balance when engaged with a blocker his size.

Shazier projects as an early second round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft.
