Author's Comments

Based on assumed rankings and playoff predictions

1 - KC: Matt Barkley, QB, USC
**(from CLE for 5th overall, 2013 2nd round, 2014 1st round) The Chiefs jump up for a shot at Barkley. He is not the most physically gifted QB in the class, but like Luck last year, he can read the field well, and has tremendous leadership ability, which the Chiefs are badly lacking
2 - TEN: Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia
The Titans should add Jones and use him like the Broncos used Von Miller, except he's better in coverage
3 - OAK: Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia
The Raiders might be nervous about this pick if they remember the Jamarcus Russell incident. However, Smith is a far more polished QB and has game-changing ability that Oakland fans should love
4 - NYJ: Barkevious Mingo, OLB, LSU
This pick could be in play if the Raiders pick someone other than Smith. But as it stands, the Jets really need a pass rusher, and Mingo should be a tremendous 34OLB
5 - CLE: Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee
**(from KC) The Browns pick up some extra picks and give Weeden another chance with a real WR that can actually catch the ball
6 - JAX: Sam Montgomery, DE, LSU
The Jags have been looking for a dominant DE for some time and should have their prayers answerd with Montgomery. He is an efficient pass rusher, and a stout run defender
7 - CAR: Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah
The Panthers continue to add to their run defense with a strong, physical DT that can eat up blockers, and shows some promise as a pass rusher
8 - TB: Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State
Gerald McCoy has been excellent in his first injury free season, but they have no help for him at DT. Hankins is a big boy that will require plenty of attention, and this defensive front could become one of the best with McCoy, Hankins, Clayborn and Bowers
9 - MIA: Keenan Allen, WR, California
The Dolphins have 5 picks in the first 3 round and should start plugging all of their major holes. Allen will be Tannehill's new #1 WR immediately, and the emergence of Hartline will give them a good 1-2 punch
11 - STL: Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M
(from WAS) The Rams have to choose between Robert Woods and Joeckel, and i think protecting Bradford should be a priority. Woods may be available later
12 - SEA: Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M
The Seahawks tend to look for need when drafting early, and Matthews is an absolute need pick. They can plug him at RT and move Carpenter inside to guard, where he would be much better suited
13 - NO: Eric Reid, FS, LSU
The Saints need playmakers on defense, and Reid would be the defnition of that. He should immediately up the level of intensity on this defense
14 - DET: Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama
The Lions take the best player on the board and fill a major need at CB. Milliner is a tough kid that can cover and tackle as well as any one
15 - IND: Jonathan Jenkins, DT, Georgia
The Colts somehow get a monsterous NT at 15 and immediately have an anchor for their new 34 defense.
16 - STL: Robert Woods, WR, USC
The Rams get Bradford a new toy to go along with a new LT. Woods is a stable, reliable WR who is at worst, above average in every category, just not exceptional at anything. His reliability, and Brian Quick's athleticism should give Bradford a nice duo of WRs
17 - ARI: EJ Manuel, QB, Florida State
Arizona should take a long look at Manuel and what he has done in his career at FSU. He is an absolute competitor, and should be brought in to replace Kolb
18 - CIN: Manti Te'o, ILB, Notre Dame
Te'o is an absolute steal at 18 and would be an instant starter for the Bengals
19 - DAL: Chance Warmack, OG, Alabama
The Cowboys take a top-shelf guard who should start form day 1
20 - GB: Johnthan Banks, CB, Mississippi State
The Packers need pass defenders, and Banks is an exellent one
21 - PIT: Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State
I think the Steelers will like Werner as a successor to James Harrison at OLB. He is not polished as a 43DE, and could likely be molded into a 34OLB without much issue
22 - DEN: T.J. McDonald, FS, USC
The Broncos have a few young safeties that have been uninspiring so far. McDonald is a good player that should start from day 1 and be a force for them
23 - MIN: David Amerson, CB, North Carolina State
The Vikings love Harrison Smith at SS, but they need a lot of help in the secondary. Amerson could play CB or FS for them, which will be huge for a team that has a major need at both
24 - PHI: Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan
The Eagles shouldn't be optimistic about Jason Peters' ability to return to LT at a high level. He will still be phyical, but will likely have to move to RT to be his best
25 - NYG: Barrett Jones, OG, Alabama
The Giants will need a few o-linemen this offseason, and Jones will be a huge asset in that he can play just about any position they need him to
26 - CHI: Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame
Kellen Davis has been okay at TE, but he is not a playmaker. Eifert is a great receiver that can be a weapon all over the field
27 - SD: Corey Lemonier, DE, Auburn
Adding Ingram last year is looking like a good move. Shaun Phillips is getting older and could also use a successor. Lemonier and Ingram would be an excellent set of OLBs to go forward with
28 - NE: Jackson Jeffcoat, DE, Texas
Chandler Jones has been exceptional so far, but he is pretty much their only pass rusher. Jeffcoat is a bit undersized, but would fit well in Belicheck's multiple-front defense
29 - BAL: Terrance Williams, WR, Baylor
The Ravens defense has taken a hit recently, and Reed and Lewis are on the decline. With McDonald and Te'o off the board, i wouldnt reach for a MLB or S. Williams is a deep threat, like Torrey Smith that can continue to open up this offense
30 - ATL: Marcus Lattimore, RB, South Carolina
The Falcons have been able to rely on Michael Turner for the past few seasons, but his fuse is running very short. Lattimore is a steal at 30th, and would be a huge asset to this Falcons offense
31 - SF: Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State
The 49ers need a good, young CB that they can continue to build around. Rhodes is an excellent athlete with great coverage skills that can only help this defense
32 - HOU: D.J. Fluker, OT, Alabama
The Texans get a big-bodied blocker that they can plug at RT to replace Derek Newton
