2/18 Elisha Mock Draft 1.0
1 - KC: Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M
Recent reports have it that an Alex Smith has been completed and I have a hunch that he is KC bound. The Chiefs OL has been horrible over the last few years so they will go with the safe pick and get whoever their QB is some protection.
2 - JAX: Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida
With Lotulelei's recently reported heart condition, Floyd moves into the top spot as the best DT. According to reports Floyd is on the top 5 on every teams draft boards, and he has the play-making ability that the Jaguars really lack.
3 - OAK: Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia
Smith separated himself at the combine as the best QB available in this draft. Carson Palmer has struggled since his trade to Oakland so it is time for them to draft his successor. Word is the Raiders really like Smith.
4 - PHI: Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah
According to some reports, Lotulelei's recently reported heart condition is actually dehydration. He will continue with his pro-day as scheduled.
5 - DET: Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama
Needless to say the Lions defense needs any help they can get, and it starts with a secondary that was torn apart last year.
6 - CLE: Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU
He played just 9 games in college and is still learning football but Ansah is as talented as anyone in the draft. Teams see possible Aldon Smith-like talent in this guy.
7 - ARI: Matt Barkley, QB, USC
I don't think that Barkley is 1st round material, but according to recent reports the Cardinals really like him and think they could develop him.
8 - BUF: Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State
I don't see him as a top-10 player but he is a play-maker who is NFL ready.
9 - NYJ: Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee
I love this guy, he ran an unofficial 4.37 40, he has great size, great hands, and great leaping ability. No doubt the best WR in this year's draft. Amongst other things the Jets need a receiver with play-making ability and Patterson fits that need.
10 - TEN: Chance Warmack, OG, Alabama
Tennessee's top needs are Guard and Safety. The Titans can fill their Safety need in the 2nd round which means they will go with the best Guard available which is Warmack.
11 - SD: Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan
The Chargers allowed 49 sacks last season, which was 2nd most in the NFL. Joeckel will obviously be gone by the time the Chargers go to the podium so they will go with the 2nd best Tackle available.
12 - MIA: Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma
The Dolphins need to start building around Ryan Tannehill and I think that starts up front. A WR is a possibility here but they will likely turn to the FA market for that.
13 - TB: Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State
The Bucs finished 32nd in passing-defense last season, which is last by the way. Rhodes is not exactly speedy but he is fluid and very strong at his position. He also has great arm-length which helps him jam receivers in press coverage. He would be a good replacement for Aquib Talib, whom they traded to the Patriots.
14 - CAR: Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri
The Panthers struck gold last year when they drafted Luke Kuechly but now they need a big-bodied DT to keep blockers off him. Richardson has the versatility to do damage on both the run and pass.
15 - NO: Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia
The Saints are transitioning to a 3-4 defense and they need a stand up pass-rusher. Jones might be the best pure pass-rusher in this draft. There are some injury concerns with Jones but he won't fall past this pick.
16 - STL: Kenny Vaccaro, SS, Texas
The rams upgraded at CB last year with Janoris Jenkins and Cortland Finnegen, but they still need to improve at Safety. Vaccaro is regarded as the best Safety in this year's draft class. His versatility and attitude make him a perfect fit for St. Louis.
17 - PIT: Barkevious Mingo, OLB, LSU
Mingo ran an impressive unofficial 4.53 at the combine and he has the tools that will entice 3-4 defenses to look at him. The Steelers really need a replacement for James Harrison and Mingo might fit that need.
18 - DAL: Jonathan Cooper, OG, North Carolina
The Cowboys can't overlook their offensive-line anymore. They need to give Tony Romo some time to throw because with time he is as good as anyone.
19 - NYG: Dion Jordan, DE, Oregon
Speedy, athletic, natural raw talent, etc., those are all attributes that the Giants love and they need a replacement for Osi and possibly a successor to Tuck. Jordan might be gone by this pick but if he is still available the Giants will snatch him up.
20 - CHI: D.J. Fluker, OT, Alabama
Another OT for Jay Cutler to scream at, Yay. But seriously the Bears offensive-line is one of the leagues worst and they need upgrades starting with Fluker.
21 - CIN: Manti Te'o, ILB, Notre Dame
4.82. That's the big number everyone is looking at which is his 40 time. But apparently the Bengals have a thing for slow LBs (Maualuga, Burfict) and Te'o will fit right in. SI's Peter King reported that Te'o will not drop past the Bengals pick at 21.
22 - STL: Keenan Allen, WR, California
Bradford's go-to guy is a free-agent and his inability to stay healthy might force the Rams to let him go so they have to draft his replacement. Allen might be a top-20 pick but if he lasts he probably won't pass the Rams pick.
23 - MIN: DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson
Oft-injured Percy Harvin has one foot out of the door and even with him the Vikings passing-game is well below average. If Allen is gone the Vikings will seriously consider taking either Hopkins or Austin with this pick.
24 - IND: Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington
Trufant ran an unofficial 4.31 during the combine which all but solidified him as a 1st round pick. His solid combine will push him ahead of Banks on the Colts wish list.
25 - SEA: Datone Jones, DE, UCLA
Seattle's defense might be the best in the league but they still could use some interior pass-rush to make it even better. Jones can step in right away and help the Seahawks defense get after the Quarterback.
26 - GB: Alec Ogletree, ILB, Georgia
Recent DUI and a so-so combine will allow Ogletree to drop to the Packers. Ogletree is obviously familiar with the 3-4 defense as he played it in college and he would give the Packers some athleticism at ILB which is something they desperately need.
27 - HOU: Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia
The Texans already have a superstar outside receiver in Andre Johnson but they don't have a reliable slot-receiver. Austin might be the most talented receiver and after running an unofficial 4.25 in the combine he might also be the fastest. Austin could also help the Texans in the return game.
28 - DEN: Johnthan Banks, CB, Mississippi State
It is time for the Broncos to draft Champ Bailey's successor. Banks might not have an immediate impact but after a year under Bailey's wings could really help him develop into a shut-down corner.
29 - NE: Matt Elam, SS, Florida
The Patriots secondary needs fixing and while I don't think Elam should be a 1st round pick the Pats might have to reach in order to get him. I think there's a good chance that New England will trade this pick.
30 - ATL: Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M
A terrible combine drops Moore to the falcons where they will race to the podium to snatch him up. The Falcons need a pass-rusher to complement John Abrams and Moore fits well into their scheme.
31 - SF: Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State
I think the 49ers will trade up at some point in this draft but if they don't do it in the 1st round Hankins might be the guy here. Justin Smith is getting older and outside of Aldon Smith their pass-rush was not special. Hankins has special quickness for a guy his size and could immediately upgrade the 49ers d-line.
32 - BAL: Arthur Brown, ILB, Kansas State
The Ravens need a replacement for Ray Lewis. Brown has a great football IQ, solid instincts, and above average strength. I don't know if Brown can cry at any given time but I do know that he fits the Ravens top need, which is a long-term, play-making ILB.
