3/12 ClipperCoach's Mock Draft (Round 3)
1 - JAX: Matt Scott, QB, Arizona
A Russell Wilson mold of a player, Bradley will attempt to create competition and duplicate what Carroll is doing in Seattle. The blueprint is there, its whether or not Bradley can follow it well enough while putting his own stamp on this team. Good QB selection here.
2 - KC: Brennan Williams, OT, North Carolina
Reid has always been a fan of big linemen. He tagged Albert, but I believe that is only patchwork for a year. He adds williams so that they can build on the right side until a deal can get done for Albert, or find a quality replacement. Williams will be a solid RT.
3 - OAK: Da'Rick Rogers, WR, Tennessee Tech
Palmer needs a few more weapons. For that a good pick here is Rogers. He is a character issue, but I believe he will set out to prove people wrong. He was a top 5 WR coming into college, and had all the makings of a top 5 WR in the NFL. We will see if he pans out. If he does, he will make Raiders fans, and Palmer very happy.
4 - PHI: Andre Ellington, RB, Clemson
Not working out has hurt Ellington. However, if he can get healthy and show teams what he can do this is a solid, steal so to speak. McCoy is a good RB, but Im not sure if the spread option is his system. Ellington did much of this at Clemson and is a home run hitter between the tackles, and on the edge. He catches the ball well, and is a complete back, when healthy. Look for Kelly to add offense here.
5 - MIN: Jordan Mills, OT, Louisiana Tech
The Vikings will need to add OL help and depth. Loadholt looks set to test free agency and adding a younger, more athletic OT to play across from Khalil would be a good thing. A center is a possibility too.
7 - CLE: Gavin Escobar, TE, San Diego State
The Browns will look to add another offensive weapon for Mallet (Yes they will trade for him). Adding Patton last round, and a TE this round, the offense will soon round out for Mallet to throw the ball around. The future focus will be the defense however.
8 - BUF: A.J. Klein, ILB, Iowa State
A solid ILB prospect, Kline fits well in the 3-4 ILB. He doesn't need to cover much, and is a good tackler. He will be a project to start, but if he picks up the defense quickly he will be a good starter right away. A heady player with more instinct and brains than most LBs in college.
9 - NYJ: Joseph Randle, RB, Oklahoma State
Randle is an intriguing back. He can do so many things and will be a dynamic asset. However, health, and consistency are huge. If he can keep both on the positive ends, the offense in New York will be more explosive than ever.
10 - TEN: Le'Veon Bell, RB, Michigan State
A tough inside runner, Bell will be able to spare CJ. Johnson is hasn't been as productive, and unless the Titans start to stretch the filed vertically with pass threats, he won't be. They need a tough inside runner to get the hard, more physical yards, and save the play making for CJ.
11 - CAR: Leon McFadden, CB, San Diego State
Carolina just let Gamble go. They need to upgrade at DB. McFadden is a taller, little more physical corner. He has a chance to play dime/nickel right away, and contribute on special teams.
12 - NO: Brandon Williams, DT, Missouri Southern State
The new 3-4 defense has prompted some change in NO. For that they need a big time NT that is a run stuffer, and they can rotate different packages up there for pass rush. Williams gives them the BIG run stuffing middle they have been looking for.
13 - SD: Mike Glennon, QB, North Carolina State
After working with Manning, Rivers will be a headache for the new head coach in SD. McCoy sees a lot of Osweiler in Glennon. He needs some work time, so Rivers being the starting QB for now will allow that. When the time comes, the change will be made.
14 - MIA: Oday Aboushi, OT, Virginia
The Dolphins need another OT. Aboushi may need some time to develop some of the raw talent he possess. If so, then Miami may pass on him. IF not, then Miami may take a gamble to see if he can start at RT right away.
15 - TB: Ryan Otten, TE, San Jose State
The BUCs seriously need TE help. Look for them to go after Jared Cook, but also take a shot on a TE in the draft. Otten gives the Bucs an added offensive element that they are seriously lacking.
16 - STL: Chris Harper, WR, Kansas State
A former Oregon QB, turned Slot WR at K-State, Harper will be a good fit here at the Rams. He can play the slot, and allow the other, bigger receivers to be the possession ones. He does well getting open, he is quick, faster than expected in testing times, and would add a solid element to the return game. Good pick here.
17 - DAL: David Quessenberry, OT, San Jose State
A multi-use guy Quessenberry can come right in and start. The reason no other RB on the roster does a solid job is that the front line isn't that great. Building a solid offensive line is a priority and is finally completed here. As of right now, Quessenberry would be a LG, and would pair with last years Tyron Smith on the left side to form a young, but potentially potent offensive line.
18 - PIT: Hugh Thornton, OG, Illinois
The Steelers realize that DeCastro and Pouncey are their top inside lineman. They also know that to get the running game going again, and to help Big Ben stay uninjured they need to improve their interior line. In doing so, they grab Thornton, who is big, physical, and fits the Pittsburgh mold.
19 - NYG: Kevin Reddick, ILB, North Carolina
Giants need help at the LB position. They haven't taken anyone yet, but this is a good choice. Reddick may not start right away, but is an eventual every down LB at the weak side position. Quick, heady player, that can rally to the ball, and cover well. He struggles diagnosing plays quickly, and tackling at times is suspect. Solid special teams, and good athlete with this pick.
20 - CHI: Brian Schwenke, C, California
A solid center, and most likely a starting prospect, Schwenke would be a good addition here. He would be a good starter, and potential pro-bowl player if selected this late. No pressure to start, but could potentially after a good preseason.
21 - CIN: Michael Williams, TE, Alabama
The Bengals get some offensive help, but not from a major pass catcher. Their TE's on the Roster are great pass catchers, but none are good blockers. Williams gives them an added blocking element for the run game.
22 - WAS: T.J. McDonald, FS, USC
The Redskins can use help on the back end. More specifically at safety. Now they Hall is gone, they could use a DB as well. However, McDonald is a good SS playmaker and will need to move to SS to be successful in the NFL.
23 - MIN: Will Davis, CB, Utah State
Adding depth to the DB position is essential to growth for that defense. It has been solid for a long time, but the old Vikings defense was very good. Getting back to that point, and stopping Stafford, Rogers and Cutler in the NFC North, you need depth at DB. They get it here.
24 - IND: B.W. Webb, CB, William & Mary
Depth against the pass-happy NFL is crucial (see Denver Broncos, and 49ers for examples). Flacco threw all over the Colts and to stop the numerous WR sets that all teams run, you need depth. Adding another DB for the Nickel/Dime packages is a good idea.
25 - GB: Brian Winters, OT, Kent State
There was a great "Winters" that played awhile ago, Frank. Not sure if there is relation, but if he is anything like Frank was, Brian will be a good pick up. Brian can play multiple spots. He would provide solid depth, and future starting potential.
26 - SEA: Tyrann Mathieu, CB, LSU
Pete Carroll will love Mathieu. He is a tough, physical player, but small in stature. He will most likely be a special teams guy but will get his chance in Dime situations. He will create competition in the DB field, even if he knows he won't start there.
27 - HOU: Dwayne Gratz, CB, Connecticut
Texans again pull the trigger on a DB. They need help, and want to get it now. Creating competition is a good way to start (see Pete Carroll), but adding depth is even better. Gratz can play multiple positions, and would be a major asset on special teams.
28 - DEN: Stepfan Taylor, RB, Stanford
This is a great pick for the Broncos. A mid round running back that is smart, can do all the tough things you ask of a Running back, isn't worried about money, fame, glory, and just wants to win. Manning will love him too. This is a solid start RB for the future Broncos team.
29 - TB: Jordan Hill, DT, Penn State
Bucs need dept at the DT position. Adding a good player right here in Hill would be an upgrade over their 2-deeps now.
30 - ATL: Marcus Lattimore, RB, South Carolina
The upside on this pick is HUGE. The downside on this pick is also HUGE, that is why they selected him now. They give him 4th round money, get a solid between the tackles runner, and explosive player. I don't think he will be the same after surgery, but he would fit well in this offense. He can split time, and be a solid RB for them. There is no pressure here with a high pick, but potential to make lots of money in the future for this kid.
31 - SF: Devin Taylor, DE, South Carolina
The South Carolina product go no love from others when he played well, because of a man named Clowney. Now, that isn't his fault, he just was in the shadows. He needs to test well to go higher but as of now, he will be another good developmental pick here. Making the defensive line a little younger to go with the new secondary is huge. the 49ers are linked to Ed Reed, so I do not want to have them take another safety here.
32 - BAL: John Simon, DE, Ohio State
Another defensive interior player. Ravens have the offense handled with their WR and TEs. They need to infuse youth on defense. They select Simon here who can play the 5 technique, is a pass rusher, and a quality character guy.

Average -- How is Brennen "the same size in weight, but taller with longer arm reach" than Loadholt? He isn't any of those things
