4/17 FadeToZach's Mock Draft (Round 2)

Author's Comments

Some big changes to the mock this go around. I've flipped back to Clowney going #1. I'm starting to agree that the media has overhyped the QBs and they won't be going as high as originally said, but 4 still go in the first round. Also, I've mocked some trades because on average there's like 5 trades in the first round every year, so I figured I should include some.

This mock figures to change a few more times before draft day.

To prove the point that none of us should be too confident about our mocks: www.philly.com/philly/blogs/red_zone/That-mock-draft-you-read-today-was-insanely-inaccurate.html

1 - HOU: Jadeveon Clowney, DE , South Carolina
This pick is becoming more and more interesting. Most people agree Clowney is the BPA. Some argue he's not a scheme fit, but others argue you scheme for Clowney and make your D a fit for him. QB is the most important position on a team though and the Texans have a hole there. They signed Fitzpatrick but obviously don't want him to be their starting QB, long term especially. Coach O'Brien has ties to the UCF program and the Texan's QB coach is from UCF. So you can't count out Bortles
2 - ATL: Khalil Mack, LB , Buffalo
*TRADE* We all know the Rams want to trade down. The front offices of the Rams and Falcons know each other quite well. They could work something out with the Falcons desperately wanting a pass rusher
3 - JAX: Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson
I know what you're thinking, with Clowney and Mack gone the Jags would have to go QB. I don't think it happens though.
4 - CLE: Blake Bortles, QB, Central Florida
They are said to like Derek Carr, but I don't think they pass on Bortles if he drops
5 - OAK: Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn
I think the GM is in win now mode so a QB won't be taken #5. Greg Robinson can start right away and improve the overall offense
6 - STL: Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M
*TRADE* The Rams trade back and hope an OT is still available. Fisher has connections to Matthews. They get additional picks to use as ammunition.
7 - TB: Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M
They've addressed some needs in free agency. The trade of Mike Williams leaves a hole at WR. With Watkins gone, they get another big WR like McCown had in Chicago
8 - MIN: Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville
Bridgewater visited the Vikings and they kept him for an extended stay.
9 - STL: Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix, FS, Alabama
*TRADE* The Rams use the picks they acquired earlier to trade back up to secure Clinton-Dix. Lots of teams have needs at safety and Clinton-Dix is no lock to still be on the board at #13. The Rams dream scenario will be to sure up the OL and safety position in the first round, so they make the moves to do it
10 - BAL: Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan
*TRADE* Blatimore moves up for the player they want
11 - TEN: Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M
The Titans are the biggest wild card in the draft. I think they will draft a QB if one of the top 3 falls to them
12 - NYG: Aaron Donald, DL , Pittsburgh
We've all seen that the GMen like to address their lines early, and they just lost Linval Joseph
13 - BUF: Eric Ebron, TE, North Carolina
*TRADE* The Bills move back and still get a player they were considering at #9. They want to surround EJ Manuel with talent
14 - CHI: Calvin Pryor, S, Louisville
They signed their CBs for one more year, time to address their situation at safety
15 - PIT: Darqueze Dennard, CB , Michigan State
Youth on defense will be the goal in Round 1. Ike Taylor is getting old.
16 - DAL: Kony Ealy, DL , Missouri
I've seen Ealy ranked all over the place. After a solid pro day, the Cowboys will look to add him at DE, their weakest position
17 - DET: Odell Beckham, WR , LSU
*TRADE* With the top 2 WRs gone, they trade back for better value and WR #3
18 - NYJ: Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State
I've been mocking a receiver here since January. The draft is deep at WR though. CB is becoming a glaring need and Fuller will go higher than people think
19 - MIA: Zack Martin, OT, Notre Dame
Martin can play OT or OG, that's why he's still the pick here.
20 - ARI: Anthony Barr, LB, UCLA
The Cards signed Veldheer to play LT, so they move on to another need, pass rusher.
21 - GB: C.J. Mosley, OLB, Alabama
Defense will be the focus early. The Pack have been knocked out of the playoffs by the 49ers the past 2 years. Usually it's a lack of speed that does them in. Mosley starts at ILB and improves overall team speed.
22 - PHI: Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech
It's tempting to put a WR here but the draft is deep at WR. I read that they were "enamored" with Fuller
23 - KC: Brandin Cooks, WR , Oregon State
They have a need at WR and he fits the mold of the type of WR Andy Reid drafts
24 - CIN: Bradley Roby, CB , Ohio State
Youth is needed at CB
25 - SD: Louis Nix, DT, Notre Dame
Cam Thomas is gone and they need a big NT
26 - CLE: Marqise Lee, WR , USC
A WR to pair with Josh Gordon, Bortles will have some wjernigaeapons
27 - NO: Dee Ford, DE , Auburn
Champ Bailey is a stopgap at CB so they don't have to draft one early
28 - CAR: Cyrus Kouandjio, OL , Alabama
It seems like their entire OL has retired or left. WR is another big need but a deeper position in this draft. With the way they play football, a strong OL is more important to them. They'll take the risk on Kouandjio
29 - SF: Jason Verrett, CB , TCU
CB is a definite need in SF
30 - OAK: Derek Carr, QB, Fresno State
*TRADE* Oakland likes Derek Carr and will move up to get him if he lasts this long. New England is always willing to trade back
31 - DEN: Xavier Su'a-Filo, OL , UCLA
Protection for Peyton and running lanes for Montee
32 - SEA: Tim Jernigan, DT, Florida State
They'll take best player available. Sidney Rice resigned so Benjamin doesn't go here. The Seahawks efforts to sign Henry Melton indicates they'd like to add a DT

Poor -- wayyyy off base.. some picks make absolutely no sense
Wednesday, January 22, 2014 12:31 PM
-- I'm guessing you just go around ranking everybody's mock as Poor. Every one of these players has an early round grade and I give justification for every pick. If this mock makes absolutely no sense to you, the problem is you, not the mock.

Excellent -- great draft
Wednesday, January 22, 2014 5:41 PM
Average -- Some people are questionable like Tuitt , Morgon Mosey, but I like Critchon I got him as a first round too.
Sunday, January 26, 2014 1:48 AM
Poor -- Were the Titans kicked out of the NFL? They are supposed to pick 11th.
Sunday, January 26, 2014 1:42 PM
Excellent -- Well written and pretty well picked. Some great outside of the box thoughts,...but with explanations. Nice job here.
Sunday, January 26, 2014 9:05 PM
-- I don't know what happened to the Titans pick, it was Taylor Lewan all along. Thank you for the positive reviews
Monday, January 27, 2014 12:45 PM
Below Average -- The Packers would NOT pass up on Ebron.
Tuesday, January 28, 2014 3:19 PM
Average -- In this man's defense the Packers can't stop anyone or block anyone. It's a mock draft fellas. Don't take it personally. Your draft was different;but at least you are original . nice job.
Thursday, January 30, 2014 12:28 PM
Above Average -- Solid mock. For the guy saying the Packers would not pass up on Ebron, as a Packers fan, I sure as hell hope they would. Nothing against Ebron, but Safety and D-Line are a MUCH bigger need than a TE in round 1. I like the analysis with all the picks!
Friday, January 31, 2014 9:16 PM
Poor -- overviewed dushbag...form your own opinion! regurd robot...unoriginal smuck.
Monday, February 3, 2014 8:47 AM
-- ^^^ Hahaha, what??
Thursday, February 6, 2014 8:02 AM
-- Please notice the link at the beginning of my mock, I just think it's good reading
Thursday, February 6, 2014 10:26 AM
Above Average -- Solid. I agree with most of the picks.
Friday, February 7, 2014 4:40 PM
Above Average -- tuitt and moses not first round material, but can understand why you did what you did.
Saturday, February 8, 2014 9:01 AM
Average -- ^^^ I want some of what that guys got, it clearly smokes good.
Wednesday, February 12, 2014 9:32 AM
-- I'm seeing plenty of comments about Tuitt being too high. I'm also seeing him all over the board in draft rankings. I've decided to move him down and Hageman up. We'll see if that sticks.
Thursday, February 13, 2014 8:27 PM
Above Average -- I would love to see Watkins fall to TB but I have a feeling he'll be gone by then. Great mock overall.
Friday, February 14, 2014 5:03 PM
Excellent -- watkins baby love it go bucaneers we will make the playoffs with beast sammy watkins
Tuesday, February 18, 2014 8:25 AM
Average -- I think Evans and Lee fall too far down in this draft, but pretty good picks
Tuesday, February 18, 2014 1:11 PM
Excellent -- Great explanations for your picks and love the fisy for each team.
Thursday, February 20, 2014 2:43 PM
Above Average -- This cornerback draft is actually deep with prospects that can do well in the league so that is why I think Dennard at 10 is too high, there is no significant difference from him to the 5th ranked cb
Friday, February 21, 2014 8:10 AM
-- Interesting take. I've heard mixed reviews of Dennard, but I have him at 10 due to Lions' need. It could very well be Gilbert instead of Dennard there or they could all drop down the board. Thanks for the review
Tuesday, February 25, 2014 11:10 AM
Above Average -- Solid!
Friday, February 28, 2014 2:49 PM
Above Average -- This is pretty good, but Bortles and Bridgewater should be switched for sure
Saturday, March 8, 2014 6:46 PM
Average -- except for tuitt ok
Monday, March 17, 2014 11:22 AM
Above Average -- I was wondering where u would go after saints resign zach since u were high on them taking a ol in draft, and i cant dissagree right now they r one cb from having a real serious secondary then go wr or olb after that
Monday, March 17, 2014 2:13 PM
-- With the way my mock turned out Verrett seemed like the best pick for them at 27, but I wouldn't be surprised if they went WR or OLB
Friday, March 21, 2014 9:01 PM
Excellent -- Love the comments & the erudition. J-E-T-S need WR--but funny how Benjamin's suddenly fallen off everybody's first round. You're the first person I've seen smart enough to have not just Watkins but Evans too going that high. Giants taking an OT=smart pick
Wednesday, April 16, 2014 4:44 PM
Poor -- Why would the rams trade back just to trade up?????? They could still get Dix at 13.
Thursday, April 17, 2014 7:47 AM
-- They trade back because they don't need #2 pick, they trade up to get the player they want. With teams like the Bills, Lions, Titans, Ravens, Bears, etc, all looking at Dix, they might have to move up to secure him. He's no lock to be there at #13
