2014 Outlook: Stud (low risk)

COMEBACK PLAYER CANDIDATE: Jones was on his way to a monster season last year, averaging eight catches for 116 yards through the Falcons first five games. Then, he broke his foot and never saw the field agaiN. Jones is one of the elite talents at the wide receiver position and all reports are communicating he will be back to 100-percent by the start of the season. Jones is a Top 5 WR in any format and should get back to doing what it took to crack 1,000 yards and 10 TDs in 2012 (more than likely surpassing those totals greatly). Now 25 years old, Jones should be entering his athletic prime. He must stay healthy. Another injury-plagued season would practically destroy his fantasy value into the years to come.

Editor's note: The former Crimson Tide receiver skipped OTAs. He probably won't participate in training camp either. This should be a concern since he will have to knock the rust off during the regular season, but Jones is just so talented and athletic that it may not even matter.

Latest Update

Jul-27-14 Falcons WR Julio Jones looks 'explosive'

Jones is showing no lingering issues with his surgically repaired foot, according to ESPN's Vaughn McClure. Jones is moving well, accelerating and stopping with ease. While the Falcons are limiting his reps in camp, that is reportedly a cautionary measure, and not because of any setbacks in Jones' recovery. Jones missed 11 games in 2013 with a broken foot.

Fantasy Analysis:

This is excellent news for would-be Jones owners, and also for those interested in Falcons WR Roddy White. While Jones' health will continue to be a concern, the fact that he looks 100% is extremely encouraging. White, for his part, does much better statistically when Jones is present in the lineup to distract defenses. These two make up one of the best one-two punches in the NFL, and after a down-year for the Falcons in 2013, they should get back to top-level production. Draft Jones as a WR1 and White as a WR2 with upside.

2.03 FFToolbox - Scott Atkins - It took me very little time to take Julio Jones who I have ranked the #3 WR overall for 2013. While my RB1 won't come until pick 3.10, I like the value I've been seeing drop at RB later in the draft.
2013 FFToolbox Expert Mock Draft #2

2.01 KFFSC - When I found out I was picking 12th I immediately thought of a Lynch-Marshall combo. I'm thrilled that it ended up being Rice-Jones instead. Julio's in a prolific offense with a QB that loves to get him the ball. He'll receive a lot of attention from opposing defenses but with Gonzalez, Roddy White, and now Steven Jackson on the field it will be hard to shut Jones down. I thought about going with Jimmy Graham or Dez Bryant here but in a ppr contest that starts at least 3 WRs and can start up to 5 WRs it was important to me to build an intimidating WR corps. I picked Jones over Bryant because he has less injury issues, less off the field problems, and is in a more dynamic offense.

2.08 FFToolbox -Scott - This format places an emphasis on WR, so it took me all of about 1.2 seconds to take the WR that I have #3 on my board this season. Only 7 points separated Roddy and Julio last season and I expect Julio to surpass him this year.
