2014 Outlook: Sleeper (undervalued)

Last updated on Jul-10-2014 by Larry Goldstein

If history is any indication, Rod Streater fits the bill of a receiver that can see a significant uptick in production. The Temple alum comes into his third year (often a breakout year for receivers) poised to continue the upward trend in production seen in his first two years. Streater quietly had 100 targets in 2013 and comfortably made plays over the middle; a role that very few young receivers adapt to. The Raiders' receiver began to be featured over the last two months of the season, which bodes well for this year. With James Jones joining the team to stretch the field, there should be more room in the middle for Streater to operate. Working against Streater is the uncertainty at QB as he will need to develop chemistry with Matt Schaub (or Derek Carr should he win the job at some point). Either way, this big target is being overlooked in fantasy drafts (WR71 in high stakes drafts) and could be a sneaky high volume play as a guy who can come off your bench when the matchup fits.

Latest Update

Jul-31-14 Raiders WR Rod Streater cleared for practice after concussion

Bay Area News confirmed Wednesday that Oakland WR Rob Streater has been cleared for contact following a concussion suffered from practice on Monday. He was active in warmups and drills on Wednesday but sat out of team contact drills. Streater is in a battle for WR2 duties with Greg Little and Denarius Moore, to play opposite former Packer WR James Jones.

Fantasy Analysis:

At 26 years old in heading into his third season, Streater hasn't done much with his time in the NFL. 2013 was his best year, putting up a 60/888/4 line. Even if he wins the starting job, he's not much more than a bye-week fill in and is entirely dependent on Matt Schaub having a good season.

2013 FFToolbox Staff Mock Draft #1

16.07 Fantasytaz - Jim Day - While I do not expect a ton from the Oakland offense this year, especially if Matt Flynn wins the starting QB job, I find it funny that I took 2 Raiders in a row. That being said Streater played much better than most expected last year and now with DHB gone he may even get more chances in 2013. Since I expect Oakland to be behind most games, garbage time will once again be the key phrase when it comes to Streater.
2013 FFToolbox Expert Mock Draft #2
July 2nd 2013
15.03 Gridiron Experts - As of right now, I have Streater penciled in as a starter for the Raiders. Considering how late in this draft it is, I'll take a starting wide-out over a back-up runner or third tight end.
2013 FFToolbox Expert Mock Draft #1
June 25th, 2013
14.04 FFMagicMan - A young receiver who made some great strides in his game during his rookie season. We used to talk about the 3rd-year breakout receiver; I think that is becoming more common for 2nd-year receivers in today's NFL. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Streater seized the #2 job behind Denarius Moore in Oakland and while the QB situation is murky, the Raiders will be playing a lot of catch-up this season and Streater may very well flourish in that role.
