2014 Outlook: Deep-league OnlyLast updated on Jul-08-2014 by Daniel Kalles
Just like the rest of the Jacksonville running backs, Denard Robinson is another name not worth much consideration. The former Michigan Wolverines QB is still trying to get used to converting to running back. In his rookie year (even though the Jags lacked quality playmakers), he was only able to get 20 carries for a paltry 66 yards all while being active for all 16 games. Robinson will try and battle Jordan Todman for the backup running back spot, but don't count on it. Robinson is nothing more than a dynasty stash right now, but he may contribute here and there unexpectedly, giving him some very late round draft master value.
Most of the stuff printed about Jaguars running back Toby Gerhart this offseason has been about how he is going to absolutely dominate the touches out of Jacksonville's backfield. Three hundred carries seemed like a legitimate possibility by at least one beat writer just a few days ago. Today, offensive coordinator Jeff Fisch spoke with the media and came carrying a bucket of cold water. According to Eugene Frenette of the Florida Times-Union, Fisch said he "prefers" Gerhart not be a 300-carry player like Maurice Jones-Drew had been for the franchise. He wants backups such as Jordan Todman to pitch in as well.Fantasy Analysis:
Certainly, Todman, Denard Robinson, and maybe Storm Johnson will get some work, but Gerhart is still the clear leader here. Don't confuse these comments as Fisch advocating for a timeshare. He's just saying that it's not going to be all Gerhart running with the rock, and that's fine. If he winds up with 250-275 touches, he'll be a stellar RB2 all the same.
