2014 Outlook: Bye Week Fill-inLast updated on Jul-26-2014 by Daniel Kalles
Aaron Dobson was one of three rookie receivers to make the Patriots roster last season. While he had an up-and-down year, he was the best of the rookies (finishing with 37 receptions for 519 yards and four touchdowns, while only playing in 12 games). Dobson is currently rehabbing from offseason foot surgery and his recovery is going slower than expected. He definitely has the most upside of the young kids, but his health will dictate how that goes. He needs to get back on the field to continue to gain Brady's confidence. As long he goes into training camp healthy, he should be in line to start the season as the Patriots' No. 1 receiver with potential for more. With how much the Patriots pass, he should be on the field a ton.
When Patriots wide receiver Aaron Dobson went under the knife on March 10 to repair the stress fracture in his left foot, he was initially expected to miss 2-3 months. Now, more than four months later, Dobson isn't on the field. He's still working his way back and is currently on the Physically Unable to Perform list. There's a reason for this delay.
According to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, sources revealed Tuesday that Dobson had a screw planted in his foot during surgery. Dobson wasn't even cleared to run until earlier this month and is still building up strength so that he can plant and cut aggressively, according to Howe.
So, that initial timetable turned out to be too optimistic. Howe doesn't hint that Dobson is at risk of missing any regular-season games, but there also isn't a set date for him to participate in training camp. He has some sleeper value in his second season. However, injuries are a major worry right now, and he's only a WR5.
